49ers RB Brandon Jacobs was running 60-yard dashes full bore on Tuesday in triple-degree heat and he says he’s ready to return to the field.
The 264-pound Jacobs made a career of bashing his way for first downs in short yardage situations. He converted 17 of 24 short-yardage situations last year as a Giant and that was a major reason why the 49ers signed him. San Francisco was last in the league on converting run plays of third-and-1 and third-and-2 last season (converting only 27.1 percent).
There is a real concern that Jacobs could eat into Frank Gore's goal line touches, which would certainly hinder Gore's value. Don't forget that Jacobs' arrival was partly responsible for the depression in Gore's ADP during the preseason.
