Ryan Mathews fumbled late in the first quarter.

That didn't stop the Chargers from turning to the running back.

Mathews was on the field for the offense's next drive and finished Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Browns with a season-high 24 carries for 95 yards. He added two catches for 9 yards.

The 25-year-old has fumbled twice this season, losing both, on 101 touches. His other fumble came in his season debut against the Falcons after missing six weeks and two regular-season games with a broken clavicle.

“The ball got away from him,” coach Norv Turner said. “We need Ryan to be a big part of this. We need to continue to have him have success.”

Fantasy Impact:

It's a good sign for owners that the team isn't going to throw in Jackie Battle every time Mathews fumbles. But, hopefully the fumbles don't continue or that may change.
