Running back Beanie Wells was less of a factor than the previous week when he rushed for two touchdowns in his first game after sitting out eight weeks with a turf toe injury.
Against the Jets, Wells had 22 yards on 15 carries, but Whisenhunt isn’t surprised it’s taking time for Wells to return to form.
“I don’t know if I’d say it was a setback, but you’re always going to have some reactions when you come back into playing,” Whisenhunt said. “We said a couple weeks ago we’re not under any illusion that he’s going to come back in and be perfect, and I think that’s normal.”
Wells at least had two TDs in his first game back, but struggled this past week in a pretty nice matchup. Unfortunately, the favorable matchups are now over for Wells. He gets the Seahawks, Lions, Bears and 49ers, in that order, to close out the season. All of those teams are in the top-12 when it comes to allowing fantasy points to RBs. The Bears and 49ers are specifically ranked 2nd and 3rd, so Wells appears to be a guy to stay away from outside of maybe a flex spot.
