Daniel Thomas isn’t conceding anything, but Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has done nothing to lose his firm grasp on the starter’s job. He had two impressive runs of 20-plus yards on Saturday – including one where he turned the corner – and also caught a wheel route from Tannehill for a 15-yard gain.
Miller is expected to win the starting job and should be a fantasy RB2 in that role. He didn't play much as a rookie but showed promise, which is why the Dolphins let Bush walk. He has great speed but is unproven as a full-time back. In OTAs he impressed both the coaching staff and his quarterback with his pass protection, which will be key in allowing him to be a three-down back. Senior editor John Paulsen recently watched tape of four of Miller's 2012 games and came away impressed. Miller showed great speed, but his vision and his lateral moves to evade tacklers both in the backfield and at the linebacker level were surprisingly good.
