At least RB Chris Brown's role with the Texans is defined. He's Steve Slaton's backup. If the Texans are running the ball well, Gary Kubiak said Brown should get “10 to 12 carries a game.” But the Texans ran the ball so poorly in their 24-7 paddling by the Jets he and Slaton combined for only 12 carries.

“Hopefully,” Kubiak said of the Texans' do-over opportunity in Music City, “we'll run the ball effectively and we'll get to see a lot of both of them.”

Kubiak used Brown on third-and-1 on the Texans' first series and he debuted auspiciously, bursting off left tackle for 11 yards. But he took just two more handoffs the rest of the way.

Shouldn't he have received more of a look against the Jets with Slaton (nine rushes, 17 yards) struggling? Brown smiled. He wasn't going anywhere near there, either.

“Can't answer that one,” he said. “That's one of those trick questions.”
