Jets QB Mark Sanchez has been outplayed in recent practices by Geno Smith, but he has the edge in experience. Therefore, the quarterback competition is practically a dead heat after one week of camp.
Smith has yet to throw an interception in team drills, covering eight practices. That's impressive for any quarterback, let alone a rookie. But at the same time, he continued to take too many "sacks." Smith gave his theory on that, basically saying he knows he can hold on to the ball a split-second longer than usual because he knows he won't get hit.
If the competition is close, then the team will likely go with the rookie. It's still a situation to avoid in fantasy.
