Saints WR Joe Morgan clearly had the inside track on the New Orleans Saints' No. 3 receiver job this summer. But his knee injury in Saturday's scrimmage came at an awfully tough time. And suddenly his role could be threatened by a veteran contender in newly-signed veteran Steve Breaston.
Morgan earned his way into a more prominent role last year, through both his big-play ability and his improved blocking skills. The Saints liked him enough that they let Devery Henderson go this summer, and they didn't sign any other veterans in free agency.
The team is still quiet about the injury so it's possible he could be back and Breaston is just insurance. The story says the Saints are still high enough on Morgan to save a spot for him on the 53-man roster - or even stash him on injured reserve, if needed. With not enough balls to go around for the various weapons, whomever gets the WR3 job likely isn't a trustworthy fantasy starter in most standard leagues anyway.
