Daily Fantasy: Week 3 StarStreet Optimal Plays
StarStreet is running an awesome $5 Double-Up Tournament for Week 3. It’s a 200-man tournament and they’re handing out five free $109 qualifier tickets to the Playboy Fantasy Football Championship—their championship at the Playboy Mansion. So in effect, StarStreet is adding an additional 54.5 percent of the total prize pool back into the tournament. They’re paying you (significantly) to play. Those are the kind of overlay situations we like.
One of the aspects of StarStreet that I really like is that there are no defenses or kickers. That limits the volatility of your lineups from week to week, helping the better players win. They also have two flex positions. But unlike on some other sites, StarStreet prices their players really accurately such that you can legitimately use any position in the flex. Peter Jennings—last year’s FFFC $150,000 winner and a contributor to my book on daily fantasy football—is one of the men setting their salaries. And he’s good.
You might argue that accurate salaries are bad for daily fantasy players, but I think it’s just the opposite. Whereas you often see a large majority of owners on obviously underpriced players at some sites, you don’t have that at StarStreet. That increases the skill needed to win, helping you in the long run.
To kick off this tournament, I figured I’d take a look at some of the best values on StarStreet this week.
Value Plays
QB Andy Dalton $10800 (vs GB)
You have to start two quarterbacks at StarStreet, and you’ll want to use at least one lower-priced player in most situations. Dalton can be that guy with only the 21st-priciest quarterback salary on the site. Playing the Packers, there’s a good chance that the Bengals will be down late, forcing Dalton to air it out. He makes for a great stack with wide receiver A.J. Green in tournaments.
RB Jamaal Charles $13800 (@PHI)
If you’re getting in some leagues tonight, you can start Charles if you wish. He’s not a great heads-up play because he’s semi-dependent on long runs, but that makes him worth the risk in tournaments. He’s such a big-play back that he can break off a couple long touchdowns against anyone. That’s especially true against the Eagles.
WR Julian Edelman $10300 (vs TB)
Edelman continues to be undervalued in PPR formats. Until Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola come back, Edelman is going to see double-digit targets on a weekly basis. He has a great matchup this week against the Bucs, and he’s just the 22nd most expensive wide receiver at StarStreet.
TE Jason Witten $9600 (vs STL)
Another PPR monster, Witten has added value on StarStreet. The Cowboys seem committed to using him more in the red zone, and he has a great matchup against St. Louis. Witten is a better heads-up play than a tournament option.
