Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera indicated again Friday that running back Jonathan Stewart will play for the first time this season Sunday against the Falcons.
Rivera said the Panthers will activate Stewart from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday before the 4 p.m. deadline, declining to speak in absolute terms because he didn’t want to get ahead of himself.
Rivera reiterated DeAngelo Williams, who is 10th in the NFL in rushing yards with 477 yards this season, is the team’s starter, but he expects six to 10 touches for Stewart on Sunday. No matter how you look at this, it's not a good fantasy situation. Rivera mentioned Michael Tolbert and Kenjon Barner getting in the mix, making it a pretty cloudy situation. Williams looks to be the one to still get the most carries, but that's not a guarantee and it could even turn to a "hot hand" approach.
