DraftDay Week 2 Values & Top Plays
Because the football season is so short, as a daily fantasy player you must make sure to make every week a learning experience as you attempt to keep an edge on the competition.
With that being said, what were some key takeaways from Week 1?
Be careful who you pay up for. Jamaal Charles was a major disappointment last week against the Titans, as he couldn’t overcome poor offensive line play and negative game script due to the Chiefs lack of options in the passing game.
Tight ends need to be on the field. Travis Kelce played 19 snaps and ran 14 routes, while Ladarius Green played 21 snaps and ran only 6 routes. Meanwhile, starting TEs Antonio Gates and Anthony Fasano combined for 9 catches, 110 yards and a TD. Tight ends see a low amount of volume as is, so it’s best to go with players who will be on the field and run the most routes, which is almost always a team’s starter.
High-scoring games tend to benefit tight ends. The Broncos, Eagles, 49ers, and Bears were all in the top-5 of in terms of projected points by Vegas in Week 1. Those teams TEs combined for seven TDs. When offenses are expected to move the ball and put up points, they generally see more snaps in the red zone where tight ends are highly effective at using their size to exploit opposing matchups.

QB Andrew Luck $15,250 vs. PHI
It's tough to squeeze Peyton Manning ($17,300) in this week, so pivoting to Luck for $2,000 less in the game with the highest over/under of the week is a sound move. The Eagles were a bottom-5 defense vs QBs last season in terms of aFPA, and just let Chad Henne hang 266 yards and 2 TDs on them in Week 1, although the Jaguars did benefit from some advantageous field position at times.
With the return of Dwayne Allen and Hakeem Nicks finally remembering how to catch TDs, Luck's red zone weapons have improved from a season ago and he should be able to improve upon his 1.43 passing TD per game rate from his first two years in the league. Luck helps his cause by having a nearly a one-in-three chance at scoring at rushing TD; he's rushed for 10 in 33 career games.
