Derek Carr's Week 2 status for the Oakland Raiders looks positive.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the second-year quarterback suffered a bruised thumb in Sunday's ugly 33-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, per a pair of sources informed of Carr's situation. However, the Raiders feel there's a good chance Carr could play Sunday aftrer receiving good news from Monday's MRI results, a team source said.
Carr's ability to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens hinges on the swelling going down in the hand this week, the story said. For insurance, the Raiders have been in touch with veteran Christian Ponder, who remains in the Oakland area after spending camp with the Silver and Black, per Rapoport. On Sunday, backup Matt McGloin took over and would likely start again if Carr can't go.
