According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, Julian Edelman underwent surgery on Monday to have a screw inserted into his foot. Following the procedure, Edelman is expected to be out six to eight weeks.
Edelman joins Dion Lewis and Nate Solder as key offensive players suffering long-term injuries for the Patriots. Lewis and Solder have been placed on injured reserve, ending their seasons, but Edelman is eligible to return upon recovering. The Patriots aren't expected to place him on injured reserve, which brings hope that he can come back for a postseason run.
This falls right in line with another report we had Monday that it's a similar timetable to Dez Bryant, who returned after six weeks. That would possibly bring Edelman back around the Week 16-17 time frame. It seems like Edelman will safely be back for the NFL playoffs, but the rest of the fantasy regular season and fantasy playoffs is very much in doubt at this point. WRs Danny Amendola and Brandon LaFell and TE Scott Chandler should all see more targets.
