Ron Rivera said Alex Smith was "very close" to playing Sunday after having an "exceptional day" of practice Friday.

Related players: Taylor Heinicke, Dwayne Haskins

Fantasy Impact: 

The tweet added when they checked in on him Saturday, he just wasn't quite there. Haskins started instead, was terrible and eventually got pulled for Heinicke. Expect Smith to be ready to go for a prime time game vs. the Eagles in Week 17. A Washington win means they make the playoffs as the NFC East Champion.

Not as much optimism on Alex Smith starting Sunday for Washington

Washington QB Alex Smith felt sore from his calf injury Saturday and there is now not as much optimism on him playing Sunday as there was on Friday.

Fantasy Impact: 

Washington will check on Smith Sunday morning. They take on the Panthers at 4:05. Dwayne Haskins will start if Smith cannot go. Washington is already expected to be without Terry McLaurin, so the offense will take a dip against a Panthers defense that held the Packers to just three points in the second half in Week 15. Washington is looking to clinch their first division title since 2015 with a win plus a Giants loss.

Football Team QB Alex Smith (calf, questionable) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week and is questionable for Week 16. The full reps are encouraging. It sounds like Smith will start if he's healthy enough to play.
