Scouting report

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Seattle Seahawks

Alexander Mattison has looked good in certain games this season, but his production is directly tied to game flow. If Minnesota gets a big lead, expect Mattison to be involved more. But he's too inconsistent to be viewed as a reliable fantasy option. He's nothing more than a handcuff for Cook.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Denver Broncos

Alexander Mattison continues to see decent usage as a backup, carrying the ball eight times for 52 yards last week. He also caught a pass for two yards. Mattison has 50 or more yards in five games (and 49 in one) which is nice, but only accounts for so much in fantasy. He only has four catches on the season, so your main hope is he gets enough touches to be productive. It's happened in a few games this season, but that's a lot of risk. He's best as a handcuff stash for Dalvin Cook.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Dallas Cowboys

Alexander Mattison oddly took a back seat to both C.J. Ham and Ameer Abdullah last week as the rookie played on just six snaps all game. Mattison had carved out a solid role for himself, but he's hard to trust now. He should be viewed mostly as Dalvin Cook's handcuff at this point.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Kansas City Chiefs

Alexander Mattison has been a nice surprise for Minnesota in 2019. Despite the success of Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook, Mattison has still found a way to be successful, averaging 41 rushing yards per game. He's topped 50 yards in four games (and then one 49-yard game) and has a strong chance to hit that number this week against the Chiefs. Kansas City is allowing 145 rushing yards per game, which is third-highest in the league. Minnesota should be able to run it with both Cook and Mattison. Still, though, Mattison carries risk as a backup and should be viewed as a low-reward, low-end flex play this week.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Washington Redskins

Alexander Mattison has had his role somewhat defined in recent weeks. He's played 23%, 30% and 29% of Minnesota's offensive snaps over the last three games, respectively. He's had a few notable games this season, but Dalvin Cook has mostly owned this backfield. Mattison will be a great handcuff if Cooks goes down, but he's too difficult to trust on a weekly basis.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Detroit Lions

Alexander Mattison actually led Minnesota in rushing last week, carrying the ball 14 times for 63 yards. He's now had 50+ yards three times this season, and even had a game of 49 yards. He's been more involved than most expected, but he's still not an entirely reliable option as Dalvin Cook's backup. He does get a great matchup this week against Detroit, but it's hard to start someone who can get 14 touches one week and three the next.

MIN RB Alexander Mattison - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Alexander Mattison ran seven times for 52 yards last week, which is decent production for a backup. But it's hard to trust Mattison in any game because his usage is so unpredictable. He'll get some playing time, but he's not worth anything in fantasy unless something happens to Cook.
