Though the injury was significant, and the surgery needed to repair a muscle torn from the bone, Texans RB Arian Foster is healing much more quickly than many expected. There's even optimism from those familiar with his rehab that he'll be back on the field within the first month of the season.

Because of that, there's been less urgency for a few weeks now to get a replacement for Foster than there might have been otherwise. It's part of why the Texans haven't pounced on any potentially available running backs. The other part is their faith in their existing running backs to carry them until Foster's return. The Texans could have placed Foster on injured reserve with a designation to return starting Sunday, and opted not to do that.

Fantasy Impact: 

Looks like the team will ride it out with Alfred Blue and Chris Polk, who has shined in preseason. Jonathan Grimes could also steal some carries as well.

Arian Foster to avoid IR

Arian Foster's return should happen sooner rather than later.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Foster won't be placed on the IR/designated to return list as initially expected, per two sources informed of the plans.

Foster could be back in a month, per Rapoport.

A torn groin was originally thought to keep the Houston Texans' running back out into November, but after successful surgery he could be back by late September.

It's an optimistic timeline for Foster's return, but has to have Texans coach Bill O'Brien -- not to mention fantasy football owners -- smiling from ear to ear.

Foster's injury scuttled early training camp optimism for the Texans offense. With a game-manager in Brian Hoyer leading the team under center and no standout replacing Foster in the backfield, the Texans chances at a playoff stop hinge in a quick return of their leading rusher.

Fantasy Impact: 

This isn't much of a surprise but it's still good news that it's official. Foster has been progressing nicely in the later part of camp and the news continued to be positive about his health over the last couple of weeks.

Jayson Braddock, co-host of HustleTown on ESPN 97.5 Houston provided an update on Texans RB Arian Foster: "Arian has been in Houston working out & expectations are for him to return to the field in some facet by week 2-4."

Fantasy Impact: 

The good vibes continue for Foster. Expecting him to return to full form by Week 2 would not be wise, but the fact that his timeline continues to get shorter and shorter indicates that the injury was not as severe as once thought and that his recovery is going well. At this point, we're projecting him to play 10 games, which makes him our #19 RB in standard formats and #17 in PPR.

Texans Beat: Best-case Arian Foster return is late September

Best-case scenario for Texans RB Arian Foster, if no setbacks in rehab from groin surgery, likely end of September, per sources.

Fantasy Impact: 

Encouraging news. If he would return Sept. 27, it would mean only two missed games. The team would likely ease him in upon his return to the field. Depending on how he responds, he could be in for more touches in the weeks after that. Keep in mind, this is a best-case scenario. Up until now, we estimated more like eight missed games. This news could make Foster a more worthwhile gamble if you feel it's the right part of your fantasy draft to take the chance.
