O'Brien: QB Deshaun Watson 'ahead of any rookie quarterback I've ever been around.'

When asked Tuesday about rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson's progress in training camp, head coach Bill O'Brien said, "Deshaun is ahead of any rookie quarterback I've ever been around."

The buzz is building around Watson, after many beat reporters speculated during OTAs that Tom Savage would be the Week 1 starter. The Texans traded up in the first round to select Watson after giving up a second round pick to the Browns to get rid of Brock Osweiler's contract.

O'Brien also said of Savage and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins: "They stay after practice. They are coming out early...watching film together. They get along really well."

Fantasy Impact:

Savage provides little fantasy upside to himself or the Texans wide receiving corp, with zero touchdown passes and one interception in five career games. Even if Watson were to win the job Week 1, our current combined projections for Savage and Watson would still put the Texans starting quarterback outside the top-24 fantasy quarterbacks. An upgrade at quarterback though, even a rookie quarterback, could potentially raise Hopkins' floor, after only catching 78 of the 151 targets thrown his way last season.

Part of me wants to believe in Cody Kessler.

I'm talking about him becoming a decent NFL quarterback who can be an Alex Smith-type game manager. Or maybe a Brian Hoyer-style quarterback.

When it comes to Kessler, I have significant doubts. In minicamps, he had too many passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. He seldom completed deep balls. He was accurate on short throws.

He is an inexperienced quarterback who will be throwing to mostly inexperienced receivers. He should have more time, thanks to a revamped offensive line.

Fantasy Impact:

This may be the longest story you ever read on Kessler and the Cleveland QBs. Basically, this writer is higher on Osweiler than most others and not quite as high on Kizer ... and perhaps somewhere in the middle with Kessler. He seems to think Kizer has a lot to learn before he takes the field. There don't seem to be a lot of writers who are even considering Osweiler for the job so it very well may be Kessler's to win. He will have an improved O-line but also a lot seemingly working against him, according to this piece anyway.

Browns get a second round pick and Brock Osweiler from the Texans

How big a mistake did the Texans make when they signed Brock Osweiler last year? So big that they’re giving up a second-round draft pick to get out from under his contract.

Osweiler is being shipped to Cleveland, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The compensation? The Texans have to give the Browns a 2018 second-round draft pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick. The Browns ship a 2017 fourth-round pick to Houston.

That’s right, the Texans are trading Osweiler away and giving up better draft picks than they’re getting back, just to get the Browns to take Osweiler’s contract off their hands.

Fantasy Impact:

Essentially, the Browns are taking on Osweiler's contract to get a second round pick from the Texans. Rumor has it, they may cut him after the trade. Meanwhile, the Texans clear enough cap space to make a run at Tony Romo.
