Scouting report

TEN WR Calvin Ridley - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Calvin Ridley went into the bye week on a hushed note. He had just two catches for 14 yards the two games before the bye. If there's a week to bounce back, it's this week as Ridley faces a Colts pass defense that ranks 29th in passing yards allowed. The quarterback position is a question mark. Ridley is a low-end WR3.

TEN WR Calvin Ridley - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Miami Dolphins

One catch, nine years. That was Calvin Ridley's stat line in Week 3 against the Packers. Ridley is being held back by the major struggles for quarterback Will Levis. But Levis still needs someone to throw to and Ridley is his main target. Then there's this, per NFL Next Gen Stats, Ridley is accounting for 48% of the Titans' air yards this season. Ridley is a flex play this week.

TEN WR Calvin Ridley - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Green Bay Packers

Calvin Ridley had a solid day last week against the Jets with four catches for 77 yards (including a highlight catch against two defenders) and a touchdown. Three of those catches came against Jets CB Sauce Gardner. He's the top option in Tennessee, but his ceiling will be limited due to the quarterback situation. Ridley is still flex-worthy against a Packers defense that has been a favorable matchup for opposing fantasy wide receivers through two weeks (No. 23-hardest in our matchup rankings).

TEN WR Calvin Ridley - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. New York Jets

Calvin Ridley caught three of his seven targets for 50 yards in his Titans debut. Most of that can be attributed to the struggles of QB Will Levis. It doesn't get any easier this week for Ridley as he faces the trio of Sauce Gardner, DJ Reed and Michael Carter, though Carter did hurt his ankle Monday night. Consider Ridley a low-end WR3 for this week.

TEN WR Calvin Ridley - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Calvin Ridley surprised everyone when he left the Jaguars to join the Titans in free agency. He joins a Titans team that now has Brian Callahan as their head coach, the former offensive coordinator of the Bengals. As our John Paulsen notes, the Bengals were second in pass rate over expectation in each of the last two seasons. With the possibility of the Titans throwing the ball more, Ridley should be fed plenty of target opportunities from quarterback Will Levis.

Fantasy Downside

Ridley was up and down in his first season back in action and his lone season in Jacksonville. Ridley had nine games with 40 yards or fewer and was 44th (out of 81) in yards per route run and 42nd in first downs per route run. Could Callahan and Levis increase those numbers? We'll find out.

2024 Bottom Line

Ridley got big money to come to Music City. Will he be able to score some tunes for the Titans' offense? He has hopefully shaken off the rust from last season. He'll have to compete with DeAndre Hopkins and Tyler Boyd for targets while hoping the new-look offensive line will keep Levis upright. Ridley enters the season as a fantasy WR3.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers

Calvin Ridley's garbage time production against the Buccaneers saved his fantasy day, as he caught six of his nine targets for 90 yards and two touchdowns on his way to 22.8 Half-PPR points and the WR7 spot for Week 16. The six grabs were his most since Week 11 and his two scores snapped a three-game end zone drought.

Ridley's wildly volatile production keeps him in the WR2/WR3 conversation. The Panthers rank second in aFPA to wide receivers this season, and C.J. Beathard might be at quarterback for the Jaguars, which both pour some cold water on Ridley's upside this week.

JAX WR Calvin Ridley - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The good news is that Calvin Ridley had his third game with at least five receptions in his last five outings in Week 15. The bad news is that these receptions only brought him 39 yards. Over his last two games, Ridley has seen 25 targets, resulting in nine grabs for 92 yards. His 6.4 Half-PPR points were enough to finish as the WR48 last week.

If you wanted a team for a wide receiver to play against when fantasy playoffs are in full swing, you would ask for the Buccaneers, given that they rank dead last in aFPA to wideouts. But when that wide receiver is grossly inefficient, and is likely to be trusting C.J. Beathard to get him the ball, your expectations should be seriously tempered. Ridley projects to be a mid-tier WR3 play this week.
