NO WR Chris Olave - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Minnesota Vikings (London)

Chris Olave was just named NFC Offensive Rookie of the Month and it's easy to see why. Following his five-catch, 80-yard performance against the Buccaneers, Olave broke out big time for nine catches and 147 yards against the Panthers. Olave has settled in as the WR2 (arguably WR1?) in New Orleans and has an interesting matchup against the Vikings this week, who, while they rank No. 5 against wide receivers in our matchup rankings, are just 20th in pass defense DVOA. We're not sure yet who the quarterback will be, but regardless, they'll be looking in Olave's direction, especially with Michael Thomas out. He's very much, at the very least, a WR3/flex option.

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Carolina Panthers

Jameis Winston really started forming a connection with Chris Olave against the Buccaneers, targeting him 13 times. He caught just five of those targets but did turn them into 80 yards. Olave may have passed Jarvis Landry as the No. 2 WR in New Orleans but it will be interesting to see if Olave continues seeing a hefty number of targets, especially once Alvin Kamara returns from injury. Olave is a borderline flex option in an okay matchup against the Panthers.

NO WR Chris Olave - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Atlanta Falcons

Rookie wide receivers are always tricky in fantasy. You never know how quickly they can get up to speed and how often they'll see the field. But New Orleans loves Chris Olave and he could very well work his way in rather quickly. But being a rookie and being Week 1, it's ok if you feel you want to temper early expectations, especially with Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry leading as veterans. See how Olave is worked into the offense early and go from there. He's outside our top-40 wide receivers this week.

NO WR Chris Olave - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Chris Olave surprised many by returning to Ohio State in 2021. All he did was catch 13 touchdown passes and record almost 1,000 receiving yards. Between that, his route running and his incredible speed (4.39 40-yard dash at the Combine), Olave vaulted to the 11th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. And New Orleans moved up from No. 16 to select Olave, so they have plans for him.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Rookie wide receivers are always hit and miss. New Orleans also still has Alvin Kamara and two veteran receivers in Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry. It’s fair to temper expectations early with Olave, as the Saints work him into the offense while monitoring the status of Thomas.

2022 Bottom Line
Olave is a strong lottery ticket in 2022. He has blazing speed to take the top off the defense and if he gets up to speed quickly, he can be quite the fantasy contributor. For now, you can probably get him in round ten of your draft.
