Scouting report

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Tennessee
C.J. Spiller caught just 2-of-4 targets for 15 yards and a touchdown in the Saints Week 8 win over the Giants, while also adding four carries for 21 yards. On a day when Drew Brees threw for 511 yards and seven touchdowns, the measly 15 yards generated by Spiller is a major disappointment. That said, with Khiry Robinson now out for the year after suffering an injury last week, Spiller's fantasy stock receives a boast. Heading into Week 9 owners should still consider Spiller a risky RB3, but he's worth a roster spot as he's now one Mark Ingram injury away from being the Saints top back. Ranked as our RB23 in PPR formats, Spiller is a high-risk FLEX play for Week 9.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 8, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. New York Giants
C.J. Spiller caught six of his targets for 32 yards in the Saints Week 7 win over the Colts. He also rushed four times for 16 yards as the 10 total touches were the most Spiller has accumulated in one game this season. Ranked as our RB37 in standard leagues and as our RB29 in PPR formats, you should avoid Spiller. He's done little to prove he can be a reliable flex option moving forward.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 7, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Indianapolis
C.J. Spiller rushed three times for 10 yards and caught four passes for 17 yards in the Saints Week 6 win over the Falcons. Spiller continues to be a massive disappointment for fantasy owners who drafted him with the belief Sean Payton would turn him into the next Darren Sproles or Reggie Bush in New Orleans' offense. Spiller has just 27 touches through five games and while owners in PPR leagues may want to hang onto him for another week or two, there's no reason to keep him in standard formats. Keep him on your bench for Week 8.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 6, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Atlanta
C.J. Spiller rushed three times for 10 yards and caught 3-of-4 targets for negative eight yards in the Saints Week 5 loss to the Eagles. Why Sean Payton didn't mix in more passes to Spiller in the second half with the Saints trailing is telling. Despite Payton's claims he wants to get Spiller more involved, the back continues to be an afterthought in New Orleans' offense. There might be a game where Spiller is unleashed, but fantasy owners can't take the risk starting him until he does. Bench him for Week 6 against the Falcons, as he ranks as our RB35 for Week 6.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 5, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Philadelphia
For those owners who were desperate and started C.J. Spiller last week, the sight of him sprinting towards the end zone on the second play of overtime was a beautiful sight. Spiller played on 21-of-73 snaps while rushing for 10 yards on two carries. He saved fantasy owners with his five-catch, 99-yard performance that was capped off with his 80-yard touchdown reception in overtime to help New Orleans beat Dallas. Spiller is currently ranked as our RB35 in standard leagues and our RB24 in PPR formats, making him a FLEX option for Week 5 against the Eagles. His opportunities should continue to grow and if you were desperate enough to play him in Week 4, you might as well start him again on Sunday assuming your options are limited.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 4, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Cowboys
C.J. Spiller rushed one time for four yards while also catching two passes for 22 yards in the Saints Week 3 loss to the Panthers. The good news is he saw a bump in snaps, playing on 16-of-72 offensive plays compared to seven-of-78 snaps in Week 2. Coach Sean Payton also said this week that Spiller is 100 percent healthy and he needs to give the former Bill more opportunities. Considering the Saints handed Spiller $9 million guaranteed this offseason, it's likely Payton will get the ball into his hands more moving forward. That said, Spiller ranks as our RB46 for Week 4 and until we see him receive more touches, it's wise to leave him on your bench.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Carolina
C.J. Spiller finished with three carries for seven yards and one catch for 19 yards in the Saints Week 2 loss to the Bucs. Coach Sean Payton said the team planned to limit Spiller's workload in Week 2 and they did, as he played just seven snaps. The good news is Spiller didn't suffer a setback and his role in Payton's offense should expand. But ranked as our RB68 for Week 3, he shouldn't be trusted this weekend at Carolina. Leave Spiller on your bench until it's clear Payton is ready to expand his workload.
