Scouting report

KC RB Damien Williams - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Damien Williams was actually able to move the ball forward last week as he finished with 30 yards on seven carries. He also scored his third touchdown of the season. But this game is coming directly off of a game where he touched the ball 11 times for six yards. Williams is playing behind LeSean McCoy, and is then splitting snaps with both Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson. Williams isn't much more than a low-end flex play in a tough matchup against the Vikings this week.

KC RB Damien Williams - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Green Bay Packers

Damien Williams had 11 touches last week for 6 yards. It's just the latest poor performance in a bad season for Williams. The Chiefs running back is averaging 1.7 yards per carry on 41 rush attempts. He's been somewhat effective as a receiver, but he's only averaging 23 receiving yards per game. He gets a favorable matchup against the Packers this week, but based on his previous performances he won't be a strong play. He should be viewed as a weak flex option.

KC RB Damien Williams - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Denver Broncos

Damien Williams scored a touchdown last week, but that wasn't the main takeaway from his performance. The takeaway is that Williams had just two touches all game, one run and one catch. He also played just 38% of the snaps, which is his lowest number of the season in games where he was active. We expect him to be more involved as a receiver moving forward, but he's not much more than a low-end flex play this week against Denver.

KC RB Damien Williams - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Houston Texans

Damien Williams returned to the lineup last week, but it wasn't a great outing. He ran nine times for 23 yards while catching three passes for 15. He played 56% of the offensive snaps as LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams also saw action. Heading into the year, it looked like Williams would be heavily-used, but it's clear now that's not the case. He's still the most likely among all three backs to produce, but his ceiling is somewhat limited now. He gets a solid matchup against the Texans this week, who are allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to running backs. Williams should be fine as an RB2 choice in Week 6.

KC RB Damien Williams - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Damien Williams is expected to return this week after being a full participant in practice. He's missed the last two games with a knee injury. Williams has more value in PPR formats as he's been the weaker runner between him and LeSean McCoy in the time they've played together. But in such a high-powered offense, there's enough production for them both. Williams gets a good matchup against the Colts in Week 5 and can be viewed as a strong RB2.

KC RB Damien Williams - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Oakland Raiders

Damien Williams had a solid fantasy outing, but not a spectacular 2019 debut. He carried the ball 13 times for 26 yards (2.0 ypc) while newly acquired LeSean McCoy outperformed him by running 10 times for 81 yards. Williams did add a touchdown and six receptions for 39 yards, but McCoy's role could expand if Williams continues to struggle on the ground.

We do like Williams this week, though. He gets a favorable matchup as the Raiders gave up 95 rushing yards in Week 1 and the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing backs in 2018. Williams played over half of the team's offensive snaps in Week 1, so McCoy shouldn't be too much of a concern. Williams is a strong RB2 vs. Oakland.

KC RB Damien Williams - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Damien Williams emerged as a star last season after Kareem Hunt was released and Williams was thrust into the starting role. He averaged 110 yards per game in his five starts (including the postseason), doing damage both as a runner and as a receiver. He'll be the starting back to open 2019, but his role got a little more interesting once the team signed LeSean McCoy in the week before the season opener.

McCoy's presence certainly adds a little more drama, but Williams should still be the feature back in Kansas City. He doesn't get a great Week 1 matchup against Jacksonville as the Jaguars allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to opposing backs last season. Still, Williams is a low-end RB1 or a strong RB2 play this week.
