Fantasy Upside
Daniel Jones upped his rushing production from 279 yards as a rookie to 423 yards last year. That’s a little tricky because 80 yards of that was on one single play, but it’s good to see he has the potential to add rushing production to his fantasy value. Jones should benefit this year from some added weapons in Kenny Golladay and first-round rookie Kadarius Toney, not to mention the expected return of all-purpose running back Saquon Barkley.
Fantasy Downside
Jones had just 2,943 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 picks last season, a clear regression from his 3,027/24/12 rookie year – when he played one fewer game. While a lot of that can be attributed to the lack of weapons and the injury to Barkley, it’s definitely concerning to see regression in a young quarterback. Additionally, Justin Edwards has the Giants listed as the worst offensive line in the league heading into 2021.
2021 Bottom Line
Jones has a lot of potential with a new stable of weapons to work with heading into his third year in the league and second year in this offense. However, he’s definitely risky and it’s very possible he just isn’t a long-term starter in this league. His job should be safe enough to warrant consideration as a deep-league QB2 option with upside, but fantasy owners should be sure to grab a legit starter to pair with him in case everything falls apart again for the Giants’ offense.
