NYG QB Daniel Jones - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Daniel Jones upped his rushing production from 279 yards as a rookie to 423 yards last year. That’s a little tricky because 80 yards of that was on one single play, but it’s good to see he has the potential to add rushing production to his fantasy value. Jones should benefit this year from some added weapons in Kenny Golladay and first-round rookie Kadarius Toney, not to mention the expected return of all-purpose running back Saquon Barkley.

Fantasy Downside

Jones had just 2,943 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 picks last season, a clear regression from his 3,027/24/12 rookie year – when he played one fewer game. While a lot of that can be attributed to the lack of weapons and the injury to Barkley, it’s definitely concerning to see regression in a young quarterback. Additionally, Justin Edwards has the Giants listed as the worst offensive line in the league heading into 2021.

2021 Bottom Line

Jones has a lot of potential with a new stable of weapons to work with heading into his third year in the league and second year in this offense. However, he’s definitely risky and it’s very possible he just isn’t a long-term starter in this league. His job should be safe enough to warrant consideration as a deep-league QB2 option with upside, but fantasy owners should be sure to grab a legit starter to pair with him in case everything falls apart again for the Giants’ offense.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Dallas Cowboys

Daniel Jones returned to action last week against the Ravens and threw for 252 yards and a touchdown in a Giants’ loss. Jones has been largely a disappointment for fantasy owners this year, and while he has some upside this week against a vulnerable Dallas defense, he’s far too risky to trust in most leagues. This is championship week, and hopefully, you have better options. Sit him.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Cleveland Browns

Daniel Jones struggled in his return from injury last week, putting up just 127 yards and completing only 52% of his passes in a blowout loss to the Cardinals. The Giants' offense has struggled all season and Jones hasn’t put up consistent fantasy numbers throughout the year, making it hard to trust him in any matchup. The Browns have been uneven, but have been able to get after the quarterback. I would put more money on Myles Garrett eating Daniel Jones at halftime then I would Jones to put up even fringe QB1 numbers. Sit him. Drop him.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Daniel Jones missed last week with an injury, but he may be back against the Cardinals this week. It’s a nice matchup, but fantasy owners should leave him alone in most leagues. He has some QB2 potential in deeper leagues due to the Cardinals' defense, but in most leagues, he’s too risky to trust. He wasn’t putting up much in the way of fantasy points before he got hurt, and it’s dangerous to expect big things from him now that he’s coming off an injury. Sit him.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Cincinnati Bengals

Daniel Jones had an efficient day in a win over the Eagles before the bye last week, throwing for 244 yards on 21 of 28 passing. Lucky for fantasy owners, he added nine rushing attempts for 64 yards and a touchdown. It was one of Jones’ best outputs of the season, but it underscores his inability to score in fantasy without rushing production. He has just eight passing touchdowns and nine interceptions. This week, Jones faces the 30th ranked defense in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. Jones is risky to trust in any outing, but if he’s going to deliver anywhere, it should be in this matchup. He’s worth considering as a desperation starter in deep leagues for needy owners.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Daniel Jones had 212 yards and a touchdown against the Washington Football Team last week in a close victory. Jones only had four yards on the ground, the second least of the season, which didn’t do any favors for fantasy owners. Even in a good matchup against the Eagles, who rank 25th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks this season, Jones is a risky bet for fantasy production. He simply hasn’t put up quality numbers. Jones should be considered a low-end QB2 this week in deeper leagues, due to the matchup, but in 1QB formats, he’s droppable.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Washington Football Team

The good news is Daniel Jones had his third best game of the season on Monday night in a surprisingly close loss to the Buccaneers. The bad news is that it was still just 256 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Jones faces a Washington defense this week that ranks 12th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. Continue to sit Jones and view him as a dynasty asset, a deep-league desperation QB2 or waiver-wire fodder.
