CHI WR Darnell Mooney - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Dallas Cowboys

Darnell Mooney finished 3-53 on six targets last week as he's now topped 50 receiving yards in four consecutive games. 50 yards may not seem like much, but Mooney was averaging 9.0 yards per game through the first three weeks of the season. Mooney has somewhat turned things around, but he still hasn't lived up to expectations. He hasn't had a 100-yard game yet, and still has no touchdowns on the season. He's basically just good for a handful of catches and between 50-70 yards most weeks. This week he gets a fairly tough matchup against the Cowboys. He should be viewed in the WR4 range for Week 8.

CHI WR Darnell Mooney - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at New England Patriots

Justin Fields had 14 completions last week, and seven of them went to Darnell Mooney, who saw a season-high 12 targets. Overall, Mooney finished 7-68 while being literal inches away from a touchdown at the end of the game. These were the types of games we expected from Mooney from this season, where he'd see a high volume of targets and receptions. We'll see if he can keep it up, although he may have some trouble this week against a tough Patriots defense. Bill Belichick is known for taking away a team's primary option, and Mooney is clearly the best threat in Chicago's passing game. Still, Fields will look Mooney's way often this game so he remains a decent fantasy option. Mooney should be viewed as a decent WR3 play in Week 7.

CHI WR Darnell Mooney - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Washington Commanders

Darnell Mooney has topped 50 receiving yards in back-to-back games after having just 27 yards through the first three weeks. He's still not a fully trustworthy option at WR, though, seeing as he's averaging just two receptions per game and still hasn't scored a touchdown. He's at least seen 5+ targets in three straight weeks, so there's hope he'll eventually start contributing. He'll get a good chance at production this week against the Commanders as Washington has given up the 5th-most average fantasy points to wide receivers. Mooney carries some obvious risk, but he's trending in the right direction and has a favorable matchup. He'll be a decent WR3 play in Week 6.

CHI WR Darnell Mooney - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Minnesota Vikings

Darnell Mooney actually had a productive game last week, finishing 4-94 on five targets. Most of his production came on a single 56-yard reception (which is more than double his total receiving yards heading into the game), but we'll take what we can get at this point with Mooney. It's a positive sign seeing some production, but fantasy owners aren't likely to be excited to suddenly throw Mooney back into their lineups. After all, in the first three games he had a combined four receptions for 27 yards. He gets an OK matchup this week against the Vikings this week, but he should be viewed around WR4 range.

CHI WR Darnell Mooney - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at New York Giants

Darnell Mooney led the Bears in targets (6) last week, but it doesn't mean much when Justin Fields can't complete more than eight passes in a game. Mooney is off to a horrid start with stat lines of 1-8, 1-4 and 2-23. He only has 11 total targets through three games, which is a huge drop off from his pace of 8.2 targets per game a season ago. After three really bad games, it's probably time to move on from Mooney unless you play in really deep leagues. On top of his other woes, Mooney will draw a tough matchup vs. the Giants this week. New York has given up the fourth-fewest average fantasy points to wide receivers so far. Mooney isn't much more than a low-end WR4 at this point.

CHI WR Darnell Mooney - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Houston Texans

Darnell Mooney is off to a brutal start with two receptions for four yards in his first two games combined. It's certainly concerning, but we'd probably wait another week before we go full panic mode. In Week 1, Mooney played in a rainstorm that limited the passing attack. And in Week 2 he faced Jaire Alexander, one of the best corners in the game. This week he faces a Texans defense that's given up the fourth-most receiving yards to opposing wide receivers. Mooney has certainly lost some of his appeal, but he has a chance for a bounce back performance this week. He should be viewed as a WR3 in a great matchup vs. Houston.

CHI WR Darnell Mooney - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Green Bay Packers

Darnell Mooney had a flop of a game in Week 1, finishing with just one reception for eight yards on three targets. The Bears' offense as a whole struggled, though, as Justin Fields only finished with eight completions and 121 yards (51 of which came on a broken play) in a rainy mess. A positive takeaway is outside of Fields (and the OL), Mooney played the most snaps of any offensive player for the Bears in Week 1. Mooney should bounce back in Week 2 against the Packers, a defense that just let Justin Jefferson run all over them in Week 1. We shouldn't expect Mooney to repeat Jefferson, but he should do better than 1-3-0. He should be viewed as a strong WR3 play in Week 2.
