LAR RB Darrell Henderson - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs Chicago Bears
Darrell Henderson saw an encouraging increase in his snap share from Weeks 6-8, as it steadily rose from 32% to 24% to 48% before the Rams went into their Week 10 bye. That momentum plummeted in Week 10 against the Steelers, as Henderson saw just a 10% snap share and finished with four total yards on four attempts.

Henderson has seen just six targets this season as a receiver out of the backfield, and the Rams have all but abandoned targets to their running backs, which was a staple of their offense in 2018. Henderson isn't seeing enough usage in the Rams offense to make him fantasy-viable, and it's hard to see that changing this season barring an injury to one of the other Rams running backs.

LAR RB Darrell Henderson - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Pittsburgh Steelers
Darrell Henderson saw his highest snap share of his rookie season in Week 8 at 48%, and he out-touched and outproduced incumbent starter Todd Gurley. Gurley's touchdown earned him a RB23 finish to Henderson's RB32, but Henderson was the more elusive player, and he also turned two receiving targets into 20 yards. The impending return of Malcolm Brown definitely complicates Henderson's outlook, but Henderson's usage in the passing game, while currently minimal, gives him a potential edge.

It remains to be seen if Henderson's performance over the past few games has elevated him above Brown in the pecking order, or if his snap share drops back into the 30% range if a week of rest has rejuvenated Todd Gurley. Lining up against the Steelers defense isn't a recipe for rushing success, as their 19.7 aFPA to running backs is the sixth-lowest figure. John Paulsen ranks Henderson as the RB35 for Week 10, and he'll remain a low-end RB3 option unless his snap share continues to increase.

LAR RB Darrell Henderson - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs Cincinnati Bengals
After weeks of almost no usage at all, Darrell Henderson finally saw a 32% snap share in Week 6, and followed that up with a 34% snap share in Week 7. Henderson has done quite well with his opportunity, as his 0.25 PPR points per snap are second among Rams running backs to Gurley's 0.31. Henderson's been targeted at least once in each game, and his skill as a receiver was showcased in college, as his 1.68 YPRR was one of the higher marks among all running backs in the 2019 draft class.

Malcolm Brown was ruled out for the game on Thursday, 10/24, which should give Henderson further opportunity in a matchup that's extremely friendly to his fantasy prospects. The Bengals' 33.7 aFPA to running backs is most in the league, and if Henderson's snap and touch rates continue to rise, he could find himself in RB3 territory in short order. For Week 8, he projects a low-end RB4.

LAR RB Darrell Henderson - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Atlanta Falcons
Darrel Henderson saw his first significant action in Week 6, and didn't disappoint with the opportunity. Henderson lined up for 32% of the Rams' offensive snaps, and commanded six rushing attempts and a target. His 48 total yards were more than Malcolm Brown's total, and Brown more than doubled Henderson's snap share at 68%.

There is a non-zero chance that both Todd Gurley and Malcolm Brown will miss the Week 7 matchup with the Falcons, and Henderson should be more than capable of having a big game should that scenario come to pass. Henderson can contribute in both the rushing and passing game, and might be an extremely sneaky (and extremely risky) start as a potential high-end RB2 in Week 7.

Week 2 vs. New Orleans Saints
Darrel Henderson received only one carry on two snaps in Week 1, which is not exactly the team touch share fantasy owners were hoping for. Henderson also projects to be a skilled pass-catching running back in the NFL, but the Rams targeted their entire running back group just once against the Texans. On deeper rosters, Henderson is worth holding for another week in case the Rams increase his usage, but part of the draw of drafting him was the expectation that he'd receive enough usage as a receiver out of the backfield to be roster-able, with sizeable upside should Gurley's injury cause him to miss games. Injury upside alone isn't enough to secure a fantasy roster spot in most leagues, and Henderson can't be considered startable in Week 2.

Week 1 at Carolina Panthers

Darrell Henderson was a popular target in drafts this offseason, and his ADP rose steadily all offseason. Henderson projects to be an explosive threat as a rusher and as a receiver, and he's expected to play a complementary role to lead running back Todd Gurley.

Week 1 could go a long way in revealing the Rams' planned usage for their running back corps. It's still unknown how heavily Los Angeles will manage Todd Gurley's snaps, or just how many snaps Henderson will get. Henderson faces off against a Panthers defense that projects to be average overall, but they were adept at limiting opposing running backs as receiving options, allowing the second-fewest receiving yards to the position. He's not a recommended start outside of a potential DFS tournament play.

LAR RB Darrell Henderson - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Darrell Henderson was taken in the third round, after the Rams traded picks 94 and 99 with the Buccanneers to move up to pick 70. Henderson is an elusive back with explosive-play ability who ran for 1,909 yards in his senior season at Memphis and also finished with 295 receiving yards. He'll run behind one the NFL's best offensive lines, with an offensive system that schemes touches to their running backs on the ground and through the air. If Gurley's knee keeps him off the field, he has top-12 overall running back in his range of outcomes.

Fantasy Downside
Henderson's spot in the depth chart is expected to be behind one of the highest-scoring running backs in the NFL in Todd Gurley. If Henderson's usage is limited to the 8-to-10 carries per game range to lighten the rushing load on Gurley, he'll have a tough time returning on an ADP that's regularly creeping up from the 6th into the 5th round.

2019 Bottom Line
Drafting Henderson is all about your risk tolerance, as his upside in Los Angeles is enormous, but his path to volume isn't as clear as many of the running backs in his ADP range. If you've got four or five great starters to open your draft, there are definitely worse ceiling players to target at running back. Even if Henderson is on the lower side of a split with Gurley, he could easily provide high-scoring spike games with his big-play ability, making him a worthy target in bestball drafts.
