LV TE Darren Waller - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Denver Broncos

Darren Waller is ending the season on a ridiculous streak. He has over 100 yards in three of his last four games, and over that span is averaging 8.5 catches, 134.3 yards and 0.75 touchdowns per game. Waller is the best tight end in football not named Travis Kelce, and the Raiders’ passing attack is anchored by him. His contested catches are becoming legendary.

This week, keep Waller active against the Broncos’ third-ranked defense in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Despite the tough matchup, Waller is a must-start this week in all league formats. The offense runs through him, and he’s been largely matchup-proof throughout the season.

LV TE Darren Waller - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Miami Dolphins

Darren Waller is a monster. He had nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown last week against the Chargers. He now has 29 receptions on 39 targets, for 425 yards and three touchdowns over his last three games combined! Waller is almost single-handedly winning fantasy leagues, and owners who believed in his 2019 production are being rewarded with an even bigger 2020 season.

This week, Waller faces a Dolphins defense that ranks 23rd in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Miami has struggled to cover the tight end position for what feels like forever – speaking as a lifelong Dolphins fan – so if the Raiders are going to produce any offense through the air, it’s going to come through Waller. Start him.

Week 15 vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Darren Waller had another nice game last week against the Colts, catching seven balls for 75 yards. He was also targeted 10 times – his fifth game with double-digit targets this season and his second in a row. Waller remains the key cog in the Raiders’ passing game, and his targets make him the best fantasy tight end in football not named Travis Kelce.

Waller has a nice matchup this week against the Chargers, who rank 19th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. He’s a must-start every week, but has significant upside in a solid matchup as the Raiders try to get back on track following a brutal defeat last week.

LV TE Darren Waller - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Darren. Waller. Balled. Out. Last. Week. He was targeted an insane 17 times in a narrow victory over the Jets, catching 13 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. He was all over the field and the Jets fired their defensive coordinator after the game – perhaps it was Waller, perhaps it was the last-second touchdown bomb to Henry Ruggs, perhaps it was decades of unscrupulous methods (but probably not that last one).

It’s a tough matchup this week for Waller against a Colts defense that ranks fourth in aFPA to opposing tight ends. But I don’t care. He’s had a couple of bad games this season, but he’s been largely matchup proof and is the only other tight end in the same stratosphere as Travis Kelce. Start him every week, regardless of matchup.

LV TE Darren Waller - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New York Jets

Darren Waller was as disappointing as the rest of the Raiders’ offense last week in a blowout loss to the Falcons. He caught four of the seven passes thrown his way, but gained just 23 yards. It was his second-worst game of the season. Still, Waller’s seven targets show he’s still the primary cog in the Raiders’ pass attack, so fantasy owners shouldn’t worry too much.

Waller should rebound this week in another nice matchup against the Jets, who rank 26th in aFPA to opposing tight ends and just gave up two touchdowns to tight ends against the Dolphins last Sunday. Start him in all leagues as an elite option, and hope the Raiders can shake off whatever made them so awful last week.

Week 12 at Atlanta Falcons

Darren Waller had a great game against the Chiefs last week, catching all seven balls thrown his way for 88 yards and a touchdown. He’s second among tight ends to only Travis Kelce in receptions, targets and yards, and he’s tied for fifth at his position with five touchdowns. Waller is one of the best in the league at his position, and is the primary target in the Raiders’ offense.

This is a dream matchup for Waller, who has been great even in bad matchups but gets to face the Falcons this week. Atlanta ranks dead last in aFPA to opposing tight ends and Waller should be able to exploit them. Expect another busy day for Waller, and he should be active as an elite option in all league formats.

LV TE Darren Waller - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Darren Waller had three catches on five targets for 37 yards against the Broncos last week, as the Raiders were able to run their way to victory amidst four interceptions by Drew Lock. Waller is still averaging 8.4 targets per game and continues to be one of the best in the league at his position, and while his yardage totals have been low the last three games, he’s found the end zone in four of nine games.

This week, Waller faces a Chiefs defense that ranks 14th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Waller had 48 yards and a touchdown the last time he saw this defense, and fantasy owners should expect enough volume in the passing game to get Waller back in the upper echelon of tight ends scorers. He’s one of the best in the business, and should remain active in all league formats.
