Packers sign WR Tavon Austin

The Green Bay Packers signed veteran wide receiver Tavon Austin to a contract Tuesday. To make room on the roster, the Packers released wide receiver Darrius Shepherd.

Fantasy Impact:

The story said Austin is a candidate to take over the return duties. He’s logged 7.9 yards per punt return on 185 career attempts and has found the end zone on a punt three times, most recently in 2015. Austin also has experience returning kickoffs, but he hasn’t done so since 2017.

Packers WR Allen Lazard (core) missed practice again Friday. He had core muscle surgery so he'll miss 4-8 weeks. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the obvious beneficiary, but Robert Tonyan may be a safer start as well. It remains to be seen how the rest of the Packer receiving corps shakes out. Darrius Shepherd ran as the team's WR3 with Davante Adams out in Week 3.
