Scouting report

BUF TE Dawson Knox - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Dawson Knox had a season-high for targets last Sunday (6), but that seems like it should be his floor, not his ceiling. It only produced 40 receiving yards and he still doesn't have a touchdown this season.

Knox will face the Steelers who are ranked 19th in aFPA to tight ends. This is a favorable matchup, but we would like to see more targets go his way.

Keep Knox on the bench for Week 5 as he only ranks as a TE2. It has been a disappointing season so far for anyone who has him as their No. 1 tight end.

BUF TE Dawson Knox - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Baltimore Ravens
After a stellar 2021 and high expectations coming into this season, Dawson Knox has not been as good as advertised. He did have four receptions for the second straight week but only 25 yards. He is also looking for his first TD of the season after scoring 9 last year.

Knox will face Baltimore who is ranked 25th in aFPA to tight ends and has struggled with the coverage. Unfortunately, the numbers have diminished Knox's fantasy stock so far this season to the point where he is not a sure-fire TE1. For Week 4, we rank him a high-end TE2 and should only be in your lineup if you have no better options.

BUF TE Dawson Knox - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Miami Dolphins
After a slow start in Week 1, Dawson Knox bounced back with five targets that produced four receptions for 41 yards. He didn't reach the end zone for the second straight week but at least he was in Josh Allen's vision.

Knox faces the Dolphins next who are ranked 18th in aFPA to tight ends. When he faced Miami last season, he only played in the first meeting and had two receptions for 17 yards, but he did score a touchdown.

Knox is probably a high-end TE2 for Week 3. Although if you don't have a better option, he will get you enough points to warrant a start if he gets in the end zone. But no high expectations for him this Sunday.

BUF TE Dawson Knox - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Tennessee Titans
Dawson Knox wasn't very involved with the offense last Thursday as he was only targeted 2 times which produced one reception for 5 yards. He did play 86% of the snaps so that's a positive sign.

Knox will face the Titans who did a good job against opposing tight ends last season and Week 1 as well. Last year, Knox had three catches for 25 yards in the meeting against Tennessee.

Don't be discouraged by the weak Week 1 outing. Knox is still getting on the field and will get more targets as the season goes on. For Week 2, start Knox as a solid TE1 against the Titans.

BUF TE Dawson Knox - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Los Angeles Rams
Dawson Knox had a breakthrough season in 2021 and no reason to think he won't be one of QB Josh Allen's favorite targets again. Knox took advantage of all the attention the opponents paid to the receiving corp. We also see him being a huge target in the red zone again. Only Mark Andrews has a higher probability of all NFL tight ends of scoring a touchdown in Week 1.

Knox faces the Rams who were ranked 19th in aFPA to tight ends last season, so there is a slight advantage for him in Week 1. Start him as a solid TE on Thursday and if he scores a TD, it will make your night.

BUF TE Dawson Knox - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Dawson Knox had a breakout season in 2021, blowing away all his numbers from his previous two seasons. He caught 49 passes for 587 yards and 9 touchdowns, which was tied for second in the NFL behind only Travis Kelce. The Buffalo offense might get even better as Josh Allen has improved every season since he came into the league. Knox will definitely be along for the ride, especially as a red zone target.

2022 Fantasy Downside
The Bills brought in O.J. Howard who is clearly behind Knox on the depth chart. Buffalo might go with more two tight end sets so there is a chance Howard takes some fantasy numbers away from Knox, but not enough to affect him overall.

2022 Bottom Line
Knox is on pace for another strong season so his numbers could continue to climb. He's definitely not an afterthought like he was his first two seasons. Knox ranks as a solid TE1 and although he is not likely to move into the upper tier of the position, he is definitely worth taking as high as the 8th round of your fantasy draft.

BUF TE Dawson Knox - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Atlanta
Dawson Knox only had two receptions for 11 yards but saved his fantasy day with his 9th touchdown catch of the season. He has become a favorite of QB Josh Allen in the red zone.

Knox will face the Falcons who are ranked 24th in aFPA to tight ends. The matchup is favorable so he should be in the mix for more targets this week. The only downside is the Bills should have all their wide receivers back for Week 17. Start Knox as a solid TE1 this Sunday.
