Fantasy Upside
Diontae Johnson was one of the rookie sensations in 2020, both as a receiver and as a return specialist. For those in leagues with return yardage and touchdowns, Johnson gets an uptick in value. With Ben Roethlisberger back in the lineup, Johnson has a good opportunity to build on his 59/680/5 line from 2019.
Fantasy Downside
Johnson isn't the clear-cut No. 2 receiver in Pittsburgh. It's more of a 2A/2B scenario between Johnson and James Washington. That said, it was Johnson seeing more time on the field down the homestretch of 2019, but Washington isn't going away quietly.
2020 Bottom Line
Despite the "2A/2B" thoughts, Pittsburgh is going to run plenty of 3WR sets regardless, so there will be targets available for Johnson. Getting Pittsburgh's possible WR2 in the 10th round has the feel of tremendous sleeper value. John Paulsen also said this regarding Johnson: "Johnson fared very well in Matt Harmon’s Reception Perception charting, which I’ve found is a helpful indicator of breakout potential." Matt Harmon is one of the best when it comes to having an eye for wide receivers (Chris Godwin, anyone?). Just keep this in mind.
