Scouting report

PIT WR Diontae Johnson - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Indianapolis Colts
It has been a disappointing season so far for Diontae Johnson. His last game, he only caught four passes for 21 yards and the targets have been lower than expected this season. Johnson has become the third option in the passing game after receiving a new contract that signaled he would be the No. 1 receiver.

Johnson faces the Colts who are ranked 2nd in aFPA to wide receivers. With the tough matchup and the fact that Johnson has not performed well this season, keep him on the bench Monday night against Indy.

PIT WR Diontae Johnson - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Diontae Johnson had four receptions for 63 yards, his highest yardage total since Week 3. The problem with Johnson is he is more of a possession receiver than big-play. He will have more value in a PPR league but signs are pointing to rookie George Pickens becoming more of the focus in the passing game, especially downfield.

The Bengals are next for Johnson and the Steelers. In the first meeting, he had seven catches for 55 yards so we can expect something similar this time around. Start Johnson as a low-end WR3 or Flex for Week 11.

PIT WR Diontae Johnson - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. New Orleans Saints
The Steelers are hoping the bye week will help them get on track on offense. Diontae Johnson continues to be highly targeted. He has 39 over the last four games. That has produced 20 receptions for 165 yards. The yards per catch is very low, but that's been a problem with the Steelers offense overall.

Johnson will face the Saints who are ranked 16th in aFPA to wide receivers. He still has decent value in PPR leagues, but the lack of high yardage games and touchdowns keeps him ranked as a WR3 or Flex for Week 10.

PIT WR Diontae Johnson - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Philadelphia Eagles
The good news is Diontae Johsnon was targeted 10 times last Sunday night. The bad news is it only produced five receptions for 42 yards. It has been a frustrating first half of the season for Johnson who hasn't had more than 84 receiving yards in a game and hasn't scored a touchdown.

It won't get any easier this week against the Eagles who are ranked 6th in aFPA to wide receivers. It seems Johnson is getting the targets but the production has been lacking.

Johnson has been downgraded to a WR3 or Flex for Week 8. The matchup isn't good and Johnson and new QB Kenny Pickett still haven't been on the same page yet.

PIT WR Diontae Johnson - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Miami Dolphins
Diontae Johnson continues to be quiet as last week he had five receptions but for only 28 yards. That was his second lowest receiving yard total of the season with the high only being 84 yards. He just hasn't had that big game yet in 2022.

Johnson faces the Dolphins who are ranked 10th in aFPA to wide receivers. It seems Johnson is the least likely to have a big game of the Steelers receivers even though he is considered their No. 1.

Johnson still is the highest ranked Steelers fantasy receiver which means he should start Week 7 as a high-end WR3 or Flex. His receptions keep him relevant, but the yardage needs to be higher and it would be nice if he scored his first touchdown of the season.

PIT WR Diontae Johnson - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Diontae Johnson has now had four games with double-digit targets, but the results have been underwhelming. His season-high in receiving yards is 80 and has not reached the end zone in five games. Yes, part of the problem is the Steelers offense as a whole but he has also starting dropping passes, something that plagued him earlier in his career.

Johnson will face the Buccaneers who is ranked 15th in aFPA to wide receivers. As new QB Kenny Pickett continues to get comfortable in the offense, Johnson will probably have progress that aligns with Pickett.

Start Johnson for Week 6 as a WR3 or Flex. It might take awhile for him get back in good fantasy standing where he becomes a reliable starter every week.

PIT WR Diontae Johnson - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Buffalo Bills
Diontae Johnson was shut down last Sunday by the Jets. He was held to two receptions for 11 receiving yards. More noticeable was only four targets after getting double-digit looks each of the first three weeks. The Steelers offense has been a mess all season but now Kenny Pickett takes over at quarterback so there will be some unknowns moving forward.

Johnson faces the Bills who are ranked 2nd in aFPA to wide receivers. We don't know how he will interact with Pickett so there is caution from that angle. But what we do know is Buffalo has one of the better pass defenses in the NFL.

Start Johnson for Week 5 as a WR3 or Flex. The Steelers need to get the targets back up and that will help the overall passing and of course, Johnson's numbers as well.
