Fantasy Upside
Despite missing time with injury, Diontae Johnson still led the Steelers in targets with 144. He saw double-digit targets in 10 of the 15 games he played in 2020. He also topped the team with 923 receiving yards. The Steelers showed in 2020 that there is plenty of room to feed three mouths on the outside, but Johnson may have the most upside of the three. You can make the argument he is the one of the three receivers that Ben Roethlisberger trusts the most.
Fantasy Downside
Sharing the field does also cap the ceiling for Johnson, as Chase Claypool and JuJu Smith-Schuster will still get their share. New offensive coordinator Matt Canada may also look to run the ball more as the Steelers look to get out of the basement from last season in the ground game. Johnson also led the league in dropped passes in 2020 with 10.
2021 Bottom Line
If Johnson can clean up his drops, he has a borderline chance to be a top-10 fantasy wide receiver. From our John Paulsen: "In the 12 games that he played at least 30 snaps, he averaged 6.9 receptions for 74 yards and 0.58 touchdowns, or 14.2 PPG, which are top 10 numbers." That seems worth a fifth-round pick.
