Fantasy Upside
D.J. Moore might be the best rookie receiver in this class. He should earn a starting job opposite Devin Funchess, and he’s used to shouldering the load on offense after being responsible for 53 percent of his team’s passing yards last season. Moore has a rare blend of speed and athleticism and will get every opportunity to contribute early for a Panthers offense that was sorely lacking weapons last year.
Fantasy Downside
While this trend has been bucked in the modern era, rookie receivers are often unreliable for immediate fantasy production. Moore also goes to a team that has struggled to feed two fantasy receivers consistently during Cam Newton’s tenure at quarterback, and Funchess is still lurking on the other side of the field. Additionally, Greg Olsen and Christian McCaffrey will continue to eat up targets.
2018 Bottom Line
Moore is too risky to put a lot of draft capital into in redraft leagues, but he should be considered a top target in dynasty formats. In most leagues, he’s a bench guy with high upside, making his 12th-round price tag very appealing.
