Fantasy Upside
Despite dropping to the second round of the draft, Drew Lock ended up in a good spot. He can redshirt his rookie season with the Broncos, learning the NFL game from veteran Joe Flacco. In his four-year career at the University of Missouri, Lock showed great arm strength and threw for over 12,000 yards with 99 TDs and only 39 INTs. Similar to Flacco, he’s a big QB, at 6’4” and 228 pounds.
Fantasy Downside
Accuracy has been a bit of an issue for Lock. During his first three years at Missouri, he completed just 54% of his passes but was able to increase that to 63% his senior season. The year off to watch should help him observe, as he tended to struggle with pressure and had tough games versus big-time defenses such as Georgia and Alabama.
Bottom Line
Lock will battle for the backup role during training camp and likely won’t see the field much, if at all, during his rookie season. He has good upside, but there’s no reason he should be drafted, unless you’re part of an extreme-level keeper league. When given the chance to play, he will be an asset to the vertical passing attack. Lock has been called a boom or bust prospect.
