HOU RB Duke Johnson - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Oakland Raiders
Carlos Hyde received 12 of the Texans 19 RB rushing attempts last week at Indianapolis, with Duke Johnson finishing with seven carries for 34 yards and two receptions for 22 yards. The 56 total yards were right on his average of 57 he’s registered in ’19. Oakland’s run defense has been stingy in ’19 but they’ve struggled against the pass, which is where Johnson should have a bigger impact. Based on the limited amount of touches he receives, however, he remains a risky fantasy start.

HOU RB Duke Johnson - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Indianapolis Colts
In the win against the Chiefs last week, Duke Johnson scored his first TD with Houston. His second-quarter 11-yard receiving touchdown ignited the Texans offense and helped lead them back to victory. On the afternoon, Johnson finished with 54 total yards on seven touches. Carlos Hyde remains the team’s workhorse, with Johnson averaging eight touches per contest. The Colts defense is ranked right in the middle of the NFL, so Johnson should only be started if you’re low on RB options.

Week 6 at Kansas City Chiefs
Although Carlos Hyde received 21 of Houston’s 30 RB rush attempts last Sunday versus the Falcons, Duke Johnson was much more effective, collecting a season-high 59 yards on his nine carries. While he hasn’t found the end zone this season, Johnson is averaging 58 scrimmage yards. This week’s contest in Kansas City could turn into a shootout, which may mean more playing time for Johnson in the passing attack, making him a sneaky start option.

Week 5 vs. Atlanta Falcons
In the loss to the Panthers last week, Duke Johnson received six carries for 56 yards, aided by a 40-yard dash. The 78 total yards were the most he’s posted since Week 1, but over the last three weeks, Johnson is averaging just six touches per contest and has yet to find the end zone since joining the Texans. He should remain on your bench Sunday.

Last Sunday against the Chargers Duke Johnson turned four touches into 24 yards. With the emergence of Carlos Hyde, Johnson just isn’t seeing enough action to warrant a fantasy roster spot outside of a handcuff.

Week 3 at Los Angeles Chargers
With Carlos Hyde taking over as Houston’s main ball carrier, Duke Johnson was held without a reception and had just six rushing attempts last Sunday versus Jacksonville. He has lost a lot of that fantasy value he gained when Lamar Miller was lost for the year. Right now, Johnson's main value is in PPR leagues.

Week 2 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Backing up Carlos Hyde in the opening week loss at New Orleans, Duke Johnson finished with 13 touches for 90 total yards. Over a third of those yards came on a 32-yard run, but Johnson was an active part of the Texans offense all night. It looks like Carlos Hyde will receive the bulk of the early-down carries with Johnson coming in as a change of pace and third-down back. He still has fantasy value and should be considered an RB3/flex play in the home opener against what was a poor Jags defense last week.
