Scouting report

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Los Angeles Chargers
The Jacksonville offense has struggled the past couple of weeks which has led to Gardner Minshew putting the ball in the air often. In the home loss to the Lions last week, on 44 attempts he tossed for 243 yards with both a passing and rushing TD. While he’s accounted for multiple scores in five of the six games this season, he’s had to throw at least 40 passes in five straight. Expect Minshew to again be slinging it at Los Angeles on Sunday against the fourth-worst pass defense, making him a low QB1 play.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Detroit Lions
At Houston last week, Gardner Minshew recorded his third 300-yard day of the season and his second consecutive. In the loss, he tossed for multiple TDs for the fourth time already, completing a season-high 31 passes on a season-most 49 attempts. In the past four outings, all losses, Minshew has put the ball in the air at least 40 times. Sunday's contest may be a bit more competitive which makes him a low QB1 option at home versus an average Lions pass defense.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Houston Texans
Last week against what was a decent Cincinnati pass defense coming in, Gardner Minshew threw for 351 yards and two touchdowns – both to the returning D.J. Chark. It was the second time this season Minshew passed for over 300 yards and his third multiple score outing. The Jaguars continue to find themselves playing from behind, which has resulted in an average of over 320 passing yards the past three games. Even though Houston has the No. 5 pass defense, Minshew and the Jacksonville offense should again be able to move the ball through the air on Sunday.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Cincinnati Bengals
Last Thursday versus Miami, Gardner Minshew and the Jaguars offense struggled for much of the first three quarters. In the loss Minshew threw for 275 yards, but was held without a touchdown, was intercepted once, and sacked four times. It looked like a favorable matchup versus a suspect Dolphins defense, but without the downfield threat of D.J. Chark Jacksonville had trouble moving the ball. With a few extra days to prepare, Minshew and the Jags will be facing the No. 6 pass defense. He makes for a QB2 start on the road in front of a limited number of fans.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Miami Dolphins
In the loss at Tennessee last week Gardner Minshew threw 45 times for 339 yards and three scores. After trailing for most of the contest, he connected with RB Chris Thompson on a TD to tie the game halfway through the fourth quarter. Minshew has tossed three touchdowns in both games this year and on Thursday night will be facing the seventh worse pass defense through two contests. He is a low-end QB1 start.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Tennessee Titans
Versus the Colts in the opener, Gardner Minshew was nearly perfect, going 19-for-20 for 173 yards and three TDs. While the yardage was low, Minshew connected with 10 different pass catchers and three different players scored. In what was a balanced attack, the Jaguars ran just 43 offensive plays. Minshew will be on the road Sunday, facing a defense that yielded 216 yards through the air to the Broncos last Monday. Despite a good Week 1, he remains a QB2 option.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 – Gardner Minshew vs. Indianapolis Colts
After taking over the QB role as a rookie, Gardner Minshew will have to lead the team without Mr. Reliable Leonard Fournette in ’20. Not only was Fournette helpful to keep defenses honest through the ground game, he was a nice safety valve option in the passing attack. With new OC Jay Gruden and no Fournette, it could be a long year for Minshew and Jacksonville. The QB may have flashbacks to his days under Mike Leach at Washington State, putting the ball in the air often, as the Jags may find themselves trailing in nearly every contest. In the opener at home, Minshew is a QB2 play.
