SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at New England Patriots

It was a low-volume outing for Geno Smith to open the 2024 NFL season, with the veteran quarterback attempting just 25 passes all game. He completed 72% of them for 171 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 30 yards on the ground...bizarrely, a figure that included a 34-yard touchdown run. Smith posted 17.8 fantasy points, good for QB9 in Week 1.

A lack of pass attempts will hurt Smith's fantasy appeal, not to mention that of his pass-catching weapons too. This, coupled with a far-from-easy out versus a Patriots defense that shut down Joe Burrow and the Bengals a week ago, makes Smith a low-end QB2 projection for Week 2.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Denver Broncos

Geno Smith's season starts against the Denver Broncos, which is not a matchup that fantasy quarterbacks relished last season. The Broncos ranked eighth in aFPA to quarterbacks a year ago, and when you remember Week 1 will be the first game in a new offense we shouldn't get too excited about Geno's fantasy output. Smith is best viewed as a mid-tier QB2 to start the season.

SEA QB Geno Smith - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

After a career year in 2022, Geno Smith came down to Earth a bit in 2023. He missed two games after starting all 17 the previous season, but he still managed 3,624 passing yards and 20 touchdowns while maintaining an interception rate of less than 2%. However, his fantasy production wasn't that great, with Smith finishing as the QB21 in Half PPR formats.

There is some optimism that Smith could be set for another strong season in Seattle, with the arrival of new head coach Mike McDonald and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. Grubb ran a pass-heavy offense at Washington, averaging 38.3 pass attempts per game in 2023 while taking advantage of Michael Penix's strong arm. This offense likely won't translate word for word into the pros, but it does like Smith will be given plenty of chances to air it out in 2024. Smith projects to be a solid QB2 but is unlikely to break into the elite fantasy tier.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Geno Smith returned from injury in Week 16 and threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns, leading a game-winning drive against the Titans. This week, he gets the Steelers in a matchup of playoff bubble teams, both 8-7. The Steelers have been iffy lately on defense so on paper it’s a good matchup. Can Geno keep up his recent streak for the fantasy finals? There’s slightly better options in a 1-QB league but he’s not a bad option in a 2-QB league.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Tennessee Titans

It looks like Geno Smith will return to the field this week. He was active last Monday against the Eagles but the Seahawks played it safe and went with Drew Lock, who led a 92-yard game-winning drive to beat the Eagles. Smith will return for a date with the Titans as the Seahawks look to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Titans aren't a bad matchup for Smith to return to. Can Smith keep up the momentum he built up in Week 13 against the Cowboys (23/41, 334 yards, 3 touchdowns)? He's worth a look, especially in 2QB leagues.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Geno Smith could be back this week after a groin injury caused him to miss last week against the 49ers. He gets a chance to bounce back from the injury and follow up on his 334-yard day against the Cowboys as he faces the Eagles, a team who has struggled in the secondary in recent weeks. Just ask Dallas and San Francisco. He may be limited, so keep an eye on the injury report. As a result, Smith remains in QB2 territory for this week.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at San Francisco 49ers

Geno Smith sure did all he could to pull the upset of the Cowboys in Week 13, throwing for 334 yards and three touchdowns, all to DK Metcalf. He also added a rushing touchdown. He'll need a magic performance like that again if the Seahawks are going to have a shot against the 49ers. He's healthier than he was when the teams met on Thanksgiving, so he should be better than 180 yards. He's an interesting streaming option and a QB2 for lineups this week
