Scouting report

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Cincinnati Bengals

Geno Smith looks to be mostly recovered from his knee injury and also had the bye week to rest up. He gets the Bengals this week, which should be an okay matchup for him. As long as he has DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett to throw to, Smith should be okay for fantasy purposes. Double check the injury report but Smith has been practicing in full so far, so he should be good to go. He’s a good bet to extend his streak of games with a touchdown pass to start this season. He may not quite be a QB1 as of now, but he’s a perfectly fine QB2.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at New York Giants

Week 1 may have been an outlier for Geno Smith. He has averaged over 300 passing yards with three touchdowns and one interception over the last two weeks, getting the Seahawks back on track. He's a good bet to get to 300 yards, definitely at least 250, again this week against a Giants defense that is really struggling. Smith continues to be a very solid fantasy option for those who missed out on the top options. He's a good start this week.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Carolina Panthers

A shootout was good for Geno Smith as it helped him get back on track after his rough Week 1 outing. Seattle also got a win which helped the whole team get back on track. A bit of a tougher matchup is on deck against the Carolina Panthers but as long as Smith is right and continues to take care of the football, he’ll remain a fine fantasy play.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Detroit Lions

Even without Jalen Ramsey, the Rams’ defense found a way to swarm Geno Smith in Week 1, holding him to just 112 passing yards in the 30-13 loss. This week he faces Detroit who look much better on defense. But you have to think the Seahawks will bounce back from their Week 1 loss. Smith is still a borderline starter for fantasy but another tough week could start bringing up some questions.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Geno Smith revitalized his career in 2022, winning Comeback Player of the Year and leading the Seahawks to the playoffs. He begins his encore performance against a Rams team that looks absolutely lost. Smith still has his buddies DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and now also has rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba to throw to as well. In a home divisional game against a weak Rams team, Smith is a solid top-10 option this week to get you off on the right foot this season.

SEA QB Geno Smith - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
What a comeback for Geno Smith. He was left for dead after a failed stint with the Jets and backup roles with the Chargers and Giants. But after backing up Russell Wilson for a year, Wilson had a career year in 2022, throwing for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns and taking a Seahawks team that many thought would contend for the No. 1 pick in the draft to the playoffs. He was rewarded with a new contract and a new weapon after the Seahawks drafted Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round. So now he gets the trio of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and JSN to throw to. Plus he runs the ball. Not a bad combo for fantasy purposes.

Fantasy Downside
Will Smith be a top-6 quarterback in fantasy again? Who knows? Some regression could be expected. Seattle also has a nice stable of running backs they would love to use, including Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet.

2023 Bottom Line
Smith may not be a top-6 quarterback like he was in 2022. But he presents very solid value at his current ADP around the 9th or 10th round as the 15th quarterback off the board. He can very well finish top 12 or even top 10 again. He's a fine option if you don't land the top ones.

SEA QB Geno Smith - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. New York Jets

Unfortunately, Geno Smith has cooled off a bit as Seattle has struggled overall on offense and now find their playoff hopes in trouble. Smith's fantasy owners, for the most part, get one last ride with him but it comes against the stingy Jets defense including Pro Bowl cornerback Sauce Gardner. Smith isn't as high of an option as he has been in other weeks, but if you're in a 2QB league, Smith is still a fine No. 2 option.
