Scouting report

CAR K Graham Gano - Week 19, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round – Graham Gano vs. Seattle
Graham Gano made two out of his three attempts against the Cardinals this week, missing from 43 yards in the second quarter as the Panthers tried desperately to lose to Ryan Lindley. Gano connected on less than 83% of his attempts this season, and now he gets to play in Seattle against the best defense in the game. I’m not using Gano in any fantasy leagues, and we have him ranked a distant last on our kicker list.

CAR K Graham Gano - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – Graham Gano vs. Arizona

Graham Gano made both his field goal attempts last week as the Panthers destroyed the Falcons to win their second straight division title and sneak into the playoffs. Gano quietly ranked tied for eighth this year in made field goals, though his accuracy was under 83 percent after nailing nearly 89 percent a year ago.

This week, he’ll face a Cardinals defense that is giving up only 18.7 points per game to opposing teams this year, and the Panthers are still a little shaky on offense, despite notable improvements late in the year, particularly in the running game. Gano is a risky option, and we have him as a fringe fantasy starter with a tough matchup.

CAR K Graham Gano - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Graham Gano vs. Atlanta
Graham Gano missed his first attempt last week from 49 yards, but then made a 23 yard chip shot and the Panthers ended up winning by four in the end over the Browns. Gano has had a rough year, connecting on less than 82 percent of his attempts this year, putting him outside the top 20 in accuracy in 2014. Gano has a nice matchup against the Falcons this week, but he hasn’t been good enough this year to warrant trusting him. Fantasy owners should leave him on waivers.

CAR K Graham Gano - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Graham Gano vs. Cleveland

Graham Gano actually had five field goal attempts last week against the Bucs, drilling four of them. The only one he missed was a 50 yard attempt that sailed left on him, and he ended up turning in one of his best performances of the year.

Against the Browns this week, Gano should have a harder time though. Cleveland is an average defense in points allowed, while the Bucs rank 25th in the league. Gano has been inconsistent this season anyway, and fantasy owners should be able to find someone with a better 2014 track record than the Panther kicker.

CAR K Graham Gano - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Graham Gano vs. Tampa Bay
Graham Gano made both of his field goal attempts along with all five extra points last week as the Panthers beat the snot out of the division rival New Orleans Saints. That was a nice game for Gano, but his attempts have been too inconsistent to trust him week to week, even against a vulnerable Tampa Bay defense. Fantasy owners should look elsewhere and leave Gano on waivers.

CAR K Graham Gano - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Graham Gano vs. New Orleans
Graham Gano has not only had a limited number of attempts this year, he’s also tied for 21st in the league in accuracy. Three of his four misses have come from inside 50 yards, and the Panthers offense is doing him no favors as far as getting him more opportunities to improve on his 83% hit rate. Gano has a nice matchup this week, but he’s been far too unreliable to count on and fantasy owners should leave him on waivers.

CAR K Graham Gano - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Graham Gano vs. Minnesota

Graham Gano is lucky to still have a job after his performance against the Falcons two weeks ago. He made a chip shot from 23 yards to start the second quarter, but missed a 46 yard field goal late in the fourth quarter that would’ve won the game for the Panthers. He also had a 63 yard attempt blocked in the closing seconds of the game, but at that distance, it’s hard to fault the kicker. But he's not fantasy relevant on this impotent offense.

This week, Gano faces a Vikings team that has been pretty good in points allowed this season, but Gano is on such an inconsistent option that it’s hard to recommend trusting him. Fantasy owners should leave him on waivers.
