Scouting report

KC WR Jason Avant - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Jason Avant vs. San Diego Chargers
A stopgap solution for a Kansas City offense that desperately needs new blood in 2015, Jason Avant caught four passes for 37 yards in Kansas City’s 20-12 loss to Pittsburgh last Sunday. The savvy veteran’s status as a safety blanket for Alex Smith does not translate to fantasy value.

KC WR Jason Avant - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Jason Avant at Pittsburgh Steelers
After a relatively decent day in Week 14, Jason Avant caught just one pass for 14 yards in Week 15. The crafty veteran offers way more to the Chiefs than he does fantasy owners.

KC WR Jason Avant - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Jason Avant vs. Oakland Raiders
By Kansas City standards, Jason Avant had a huge Sunday afternoon in Arizona. The crafty veteran hauled in five passes for 64 yards. One of those receptions went for 41 yards, which was a highly strange moment as Avant has never been a regular deep threat throughout his career. Avant will probably continue to morph into a decent safety valve for checkdown superstar Alex Smith, but lacks any kind of fantasy value.

KC WR Jason Avant - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Jason Avant at Arizona Cardinals
In his Kansas City debut last Sunday after being waived by the Carolina Panthers, Jason Avant caught two passes for 30 yards. Avant represents an upgrade for the Chiefs, as he knows the offense from his time with head coach Andy Reid in Philadelphia. Plus, unlike many of the lower lights that have seen playing time for the Chiefs this year, Avant is a legitimate NFL receiver. However, Jason has lost several steps he never really had to begin with and is mostly known as a good locker room guy at this stage of his career. There is nothing for fantasy owners to see here.

CAR WR Jason Avant - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 – Jason Avant vs. Atlanta
Jason Avant had one catch for eight yards last week against the Eagles and was outproduced by Brenton Bersin in a game that got out of hand quickly and ended with another embarrassing loss for Carolina. Avant isn’t likely to rise above third on the depth chart and he’s getting pushed from behind. Those two factors do not make him a very enticing fantasy option, and owners should leave him on waivers.

CAR WR Jason Avant - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 – Jason Avant vs. Philadelphia
Jason Avant had one catch on four targets last week against the Saints and ended up with only eight yards in the game. As the third receiver in the Panther offense, he’s likely to keep seeing snaps and targets each game, but this offense has struggled so much this season, it’s hard to imagine that creating enough fantasy production to add him to a roster. Leave him on waivers.

CAR WR Jason Avant - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 – Jason Avant vs. New Orleans
Jason Avant didn’t catch a pass last week, but he ran the ball once for a yard, oddly enough. Getting carries doesn’t seem like something that Avant will sustain, and fantasy owners shouldn’t consider Avant as a likely player to emerge in a struggling passing game in Carolina. Avant should remain on waivers, even with a decent matchup this week against the hot-and-cold Saints defense.
