Fantasy Upside
At times during his rookie season, Jayden Reed often looked like Jordan Love's go-to first or second target. This led to eight games with at least 13.0 half-PPR points, including 14.06 PPG during the Packers' late-season offensive explosion. If he can continue to grow with Love in Year 2, he could improve on his WR3 finish in 2023.
Fantasy Downside
The Packers' offense grew, in general, because they spread the ball out so well. That was all the more apparent when Christian Watson was healthy and on the field. In eight games with a healthy Watson, Jayden Reed averaged a 3.5-39-0.38 stat line, or 7.75 half-PPR PPG, a mark that would have had him finishing as the WR52. Inside that same span of games, Reed was the first-read option on only 16.3% of the team's targets, 61st among wide receivers and less often than both Watson (22.3%) and Romeo Doubs (17.8%). Reed could easily end up being the No. 3 option —or worse— in the Packers' pecking order.
2024 Bottom Line
As this Packers depth chart continues to shake out, it's getting more difficult to pull the trigger on Reed, even after a fantastic rookie season. It's just hard to see any of their wide receivers getting well over 100 targets; a good thing in real football, an annoyance in fantasy. A bet on Reed is essentially a bet against Watson, and vice versa. Choose your fighter.
