Fantasy Upside
It’s been a fairly quiet career so far for Jeff Heuerman, but he showed signs of potential last season. Playing in a backup role, the fourth-year player caught a 54-yard TD at Indianapolis in December and finished with nine receptions and two scores. He has good size, at 6-foot-5, and has averaged an impressive 15.7 yards per grab during the past two years.
Fantasy Downside
The Broncos have big plans for second-year player Jake Butt, which means it could be another season of playing the backup role for Heuerman. Neither of the tight ends are known to be a great blocker, so whoever shows better ability there may see more playing time. In his three pro seasons, Heuerman has just 18 career grabs.
2018 Bottom Line
Expect to see a healthy competition during training camp and the preseason between Heuerman and Butt for the starting job. While neither is considered to be worthy of a fantasy roster spot heading into the regular season, that could change, depending on if one emerges and how often Case Keenum looks for his TE. Don’t bother selecting Heuerman, but he could be a sleeper midseason pickup.
