ARI TE John Carlson - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – John Carlson vs. Carolina

John Carlson had only one target last week against the 49ers, a six yard reception. Meanwhile, Darren Fells was targeted three times, and one has to wonder if Carlson’s veteran security is giving way to Fells’ youthful upside.

Either way, the Cardinals are on their third quarterback, facing a resurgent Carolina defense, and they haven’t been using the tight end position much anyway. While the tight end spot isn’t deep in this wildcard round, pushing Carlson into the top ten in our rankings, he’s a very risky option and fantasy owners should try to stay in our top 4 or top 6 if at all possible.

ARI TE John Carlson - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – John Carlson vs. San Francisco
John Carlson had two catches and 15 yards last week against the Seahawks, and he remains a non-prolific starting TE for a struggling Cardinals offense that is down to its third starting quarterback this season. Those are not signs that point to high upside in fantasy value, and owners should leave him on waivers.

ARI TE John Carlson - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – John Carlson vs. Seattle
John Carlson was only targeted once and had one reception for 11 yards against St. Louis last week. The Cardinals continue to avoid emphasizing the tight end position, and Carlson hasn’t shown himself to be capable of putting up big fantasy numbers anyway, making him a poor option on fantasy rosters. Against a tough top ranked Seattle pass defense, there’s no reason to expect things to change, and fantasy owners should leave Carlson on waivers.

ARI TE John Carlson - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – John Carlson vs. St. Louis
John Carlson had only one catch for one yard last week against the Chiefs. This week, the matchup is a little better against the Rams pass defense, but Carlson is still a risky fantasy option who should be avoided in all leagues. With so many better tight end options available, Carlson isn’t going to be a top twenty option in any week and should remain on waivers.

ARI TE John Carlson - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – John Carlson vs. Kansas City
John Carlson had two catches and 38 yards last week against the Falcons, but that’s about the most you can expect from the veteran, who has never been a reliable fantasy option and is now in the twilight of his career. Carlson should remain on waivers, despite his status as a starter in the league.

ARI TE John Carlson - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – John Carlson vs. Atlanta

John Carlson had three catches for 25 yards last week against the Seahawks, and this is about the kind of stat line we’ve come to expect from the veteran. While he has a much better matchup against the Falcons this week, the Cardinals don’t feature Carlson enough on offense, and he has limited explosiveness and athleticism, making him far too risky of an option for fantasy owners. He should remain on waivers in all league formats.

ARI TE John Carlson - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 – John Carlson vs. Seattle
John Carlson had three catches for 37 yards last week against the Lions, which seems to be about par for the course for the veteran. Against his former team, the Seahawks, this week, it’s hard to imagine him doing anything more than the 2-5 points he’s been averaging all season, and there’s no reason to add him to your fantasy roster.
