HOU RB Jonathan Grimes - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 – Jonathan Grimes vs. Oakland Raiders
With Arian Foster carrying much of the load last Sunday, Jonathan Grimes was limited to just a two-yard rush. Foster will continue to be the workhorse, so there’s not much reason for Grimes to even be on your roster unless he’s a handcuff to Arian.

HOU RB Jonathan Grimes - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 – Jonathan Grimes vs. Washington Redskins
With Ben Tate now in Cleveland, Jonathan Grimes will battle rookie Alfred Blue for the No. 2 Texans RB spot behind the great Arian Foster. In two seasons Jonathan has only 79 career rushing yards, but got the starting nod in the ’13 finale at Tennessee and ran for 50 yards. The Redskins may struggle to stop the Houston ground attack, but it’ll be Foster racking up most of the yardage. Grimes should not be in your Week 1 starting lineup.

HOU RB Jonathan Grimes - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
As the Houston Chronicle recently reminded readers, Andre Brown was signed during the offseason to be Ben Tate’s replacement. But Brown didn't last long. He was released early in August, and Grimes was a big reason why. “I see Jonathan as a three-down back," new HC Bill O'Brien told the team's official web site as camp began. "I do. I see him as able to play on third down, catch the ball out of the backfield, protect. He’s a smart, dependable guy when he is in there. So yeah, I see him as a three-down back.” Working behind Arian Foster, we might get a chance to find out just how accurate O'Brien's assessment is.

Fantasy Downside
Rookie Alfred Blue is a promising prospect who will push Grimes for the No. 2 role all season. “Grimes’ experience overall probably has him a little ahead of Alfred,” O’Brien said. “But Alfred’s doing a good job for a guy that just got here.”

Bottom Line
While he appears to be healthy now, Foster has dealt with ongoing hamstring issues this offseason. Given that, Grimes is a relatively affordable (let's say compared to Tate in previous years) handcuff for owners who roll with Foster.
