Scouting report

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Jonathan Taylor has become the rookie we all thought he was over the past four weeks. Over that span, he has 414 rushing yards, 95 receiving yards on 13 receptions, and four touchdowns. He’s averaging 21 touches per game during this production explosion and has severely rewarded fantasy owners who held on to him all year and still made the playoffs.

This week, Taylor faces a Steelers defense that ranks third in aFPA to opposing running backs. While it’s definitely a bad matchup, Taylor’s workload as of late and the likelihood that the Colts defense can keep the game close, give Taylor a high floor as a workhorse back. If he continues to get the work he’s gotten over the past four games, he should be a very solid RB2 in all league formats.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Houston Texans

Jonathan Taylor now has three quality games in a row after exploding against the Raiders last week for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 20 carries. Taylor has at least 90 rushing yards in three straight games now and seems to be hitting his stride. He had a 62-yard run last week.

It’s another great matchup for Taylor this week. Only the Lions rank lower in aFPA to opposing running backs this year. If the workload keeps up, there’s no reason to think Taylor won’t turn in another quality fantasy performance. He’s a solid RB1 this week and should be active in all leagues.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Las Vegas Raiders

Jonathan Taylor had another solid day last week against the Texans, gaining 91 yards on 13 carries, and adding 44 yards on three receptions, including a catch-and-run, 39-yard touchdown. Taylor has finally started to look like a starting caliber back after an uneven rookie season thus far, with two straight games with double-digit fantasy points.

Taylor has a nice matchup this week against the Raiders, who rank 23rd in aFPA to opposing running backs. If he gets another 16-plus touches, he should be right up there in fringe-RB1 territory again. Start him in all leagues.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Houston Texans

Jonathan Taylor missed last week against the Titans, but he should return this week. Taylor is coming off his best game since Week 2, averaging 4.1 yards on 22 carries for 90 yards against the Packers. He also caught four balls for 24 yards. It was the first time Taylor had double-digit carries in three games, and the first time he hit 20 touches since Week 2.

Taylor should return to a fantastic matchup against the Texans, who rank 31st in aFPA to opposing running backs. He’s risky due to the lack of production and inconsistent workload he’s had this season, but in a good matchup and coming off a full workload during his last appearance, Taylor is worth considering as a low-end RB2 option.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Tennessee Titans

Jonathan Taylor, after just 13 combined carries in the previous two games, had 22 carries and four receptions for 114 yards against the Packers last week. It’s hard to know what to do with the rookie, and the Packers have been pretty bad against the run this year, but it was encouraging to see him get touches and to average 4.1 yards per carry – 0.3 more than his season average.

Taylor has an excellent matchup this week against a Titans defense that ranks 29th in aFPA to opposing running backs. It’s really hard to trust him given the workload reduction from recent games, but he’s very enticing if he can get 15+ touches consistently. In a nice matchup, gamble on him as a low-end RB2 option, hoping last week wasn’t a fluke.

Update: With Taylor on the COVID list and out Sunday, be sure to get him out of your lineups.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Green Bay Packers

Jonathan Taylor struggled heavily last week against the Titans, gaining just 12 yards on seven carries. He added a couple of receptions for 25 yards, but it was a miserable fantasy outing for the rookie. Taylor might be in the process of losing his job, making him a risky bet for fantasy lineup moving forward. The Packers have struggled defending the run, but until we see Taylor back to double-digit touches regularly, it’s hard to trust him in lineups. Sit him.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Tennessee Titans

Jonathan Taylor found the end zone last week, but he only touched the ball eight times – including a pair of receptions – for a total of 34 yards. He’s splitting time with Jordan Wilkins, and his fumble last week contributed to a decrease in snaps for the remainder of the game. He’s been disappointing for much of the season, avenging just 3.9 yards per carry, despite theoretically being the lead back.

This week, Taylor has a nice matchup against a Titans defense that ranks 26th in aFPA to opposing running backs. However, it’s risky to trust him with how spotty his workload was last week, and with how ineffective he was the week before – 11 carries for 22 yards against Detroit. He’s a risky RB3 or flex option at best.
