Fantasy Upside
Jonnu Smith has always been more upside than production in fantasy and that likely isn't changing in 2024 even now that he's in Mike McDaniel's high-flying offense. Smith is physically gifted but has never really put it all together on the field. That said, he set a career-high in targets, receptions, and yards in 2023 as a part-time player in Atlanta. While Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and likely De'Von Achane are ahead in the pecking order for targets, Smith's presence gives McDaniel an intriguing chess piece to get creative with.
Fantasy Downside
Smith is coming off the board at TE30 so there isn't a ton of downside at that price. Unless you are punting tight end entirely in best ball he's unlikely to be your TE1.
2024 Bottom Line
There really isn't a lot of downside in Smith's ADP as TE30 if you're going that deep at tight end. He's not going to be drafted in redraft leagues that aren't 2TE or TE Premium, so that leaves him as more of a target for best ball. The upside case of Mike McDaniel finding more creative ways to use him is intriguing enough to be a strong buy.
