Scouting report

LAC QB Justin Herbert - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Eagles

It's been a bad last couple of games for Justin Herbert. In his first five games of the season, he was averaging almost 28 fantasy points per game, along with 315 passing yards and 2.6 touchdowns per outing. In his last two games, he's down to 206 passing yards with two scores, giving him just 16.5 fantasy points per game. He's currently the QB10 in fantasy football.

Herbert popped up on the injury report late in the week with a hand injury, although it is hoped that he will be good to go against the Eagles. The Birds are ranked No.5 in aFPA to quarterbacks, so Herbert managers should temper their expectations this week. But assuming he takes the field, he's a mid-tier QB1

LAC QB Justin Herbert - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Patriots

Justin Herbert sits as the overall QB10 in half-PPR scoring after the Chargers Week 7 bye. In points per game, he sits in eighth place. He's passed for 1,771 yards and 14 touchdowns so far this season, with just four interceptions. Prior to his poor Week 6 outing against the Ravens, Herbert had posted three consecutive QB1 game weeks, in which he averaged more than a useful 34.7 fantasy points per game.

The Patriots have not been the shutdown unit we are used to seeing, but they are still no walkovers. They are 11th in aFPA to quarterbacks this season. But Herbert can be trusted as a mid-range QB1 in fantasy this week.

LAC QB Justin Herbert - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Ravens

Week 5 saw another virtuoso performance from Justin Herbert, as the second-year signal-caller led his team to victory over the Browns. Herbert completed 26 of his 43 pass attempts for 398 yards and four touchdowns, adding another score on the ground. Herbert finished the week as the QB2 in Week 6 and currently sits as the QB5 after five weeks of the season. He has posted top 12 numbers in each of the last three weeks, during which time he has not thrown a single interception.

Herbert should be able to add to his impressive numbers this week as the Chargers take on the Ravens. The Ravens have been a middle-of-the-pack team in terms of fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, currently sitting 15th in aFPA. They've allowed the fourth-most passing yards this season, but only eight touchdown passes through five games. Herbert is still an elite QB1 prospect in Week 6.

LAC QB Justin Herbert - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Browns

Justin Herbert put up another solid showing in Week 4 against the Raiders, completing 25-of-38 pass attempts for 222 yards with three touchdowns. After two touchdown passes combined in Weeks 1 and 2, Herbert has seven in his last two games. Herbert has 1178 passing yards after four games, with nine touchdowns and just three interceptions. He is currently the QB14 in fantasy points per game but is the QB4 over the last two weeks.

Herbert may have his work cut out for him in Week 5 against the Browns. They've allowed just 183.8 passing yards per game through four weeks, the third-lowest total in the NFL. The Browns are 13th in aFPA to the quarterback spot this season. Herbert is a low end QB1 this week, according to our projections.

LAC QB Justin Herbert - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Raiders
Justin Herbert is currently fourth in the NFL with 956 passing yards after three games. Last week, he threw for a season-low 281 yards against the Chiefs. But he also tossed four touchdown passes after only throwing two in the first two weeks of the season. Herbert is currently the QB18 on the season, averaging 18.8 fantasy points per game. But his totals are on the increase, with hauls of 18.75, 26.1 and 37.65 points so far this season. The Raiders have not exactly been a pushover for quarterbacks in 2021. They are allowing the 19th most aFPA to the position, allowing just 235.3 passing yards per game and two total passing scores on the season.

LAC QB Justin Herbert - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Chiefs
There's been a lot to like about the way Justin Herbert has started the season, but there are also areas in which a significant improvement would be welcome. Herbert is currently fourth in the NFL with 675 passing yards through two games. But he has thrown just two touchdown passes against three interceptions. His touchdown rate of 2.3% is the sixth-lowest in the league. Herbert has absorbed four sacks and has the 11th best sack rate of just 4.3%. The Chiefs, against whom Herbert made his NFL debut a year ago, have allowed the 13th most passing yards this season (534) but just one passing touchdown. Herbert faces the 14th toughest matchup among all quarterbacks in Week 3.

LAC QB Justin Herbert - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Cowboys
Justin Herbert got off to a steady start to his sophomore campaign in Week 1 against a tough Washington defense. Herbert passed for 337 yards, tied for the sixth-most across the league last week. But he wasn't one of the elite fantasy performers, thanks in no small part to his only tossing a single touchdown pass. It marked just the sixth game of his career in which he failed to pass for two or more touchdowns. Herbert also suffered from five receiver drops, tied for the most in Week 1. Herbert should be able to carry over his opening week form against the Cowboys, who allowed 379 yards and four touchdown passes to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in Week 1. The Cowboys look set to be without their two starting defensive ends, and the Chargers have the fifth-best offensive line matchup of the week according to our Justin Edwards. Herbert has the eighth-best matchup among all quarterbacks in Week 2.
