According to the Washington Post, the Redskins will have some tough decisions to make as far as RB cuts go:

Keiland Williams seems to have overtaken Evan Royster, having gotten more opportunities and tasting success, as well. Rookies Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison haven’t done a lot. Thompson has two fumbles, but could help himself with special teams play – mainly returns. Not sure you can justify keeping four running backs, though.

Fantasy Impact: 

Alfred Morris is the starter while Roy Helu is the third-down back and RB2.

As he came away from the Redskins’ preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, Coach Mike Shanahan expressed encouragement over the performances of running backs Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster.

Each back averaged an effective 4.4 yards per carry against Tennessee. Helu, who got the start, gained 57 yards on 13 carries, while Royster rushed for 62 yards on 14 carries.

Fantasy Impact: 

As the story points out, each has a different style. While starter Alfred Morris is a bruising runner, Helu excels because of his speed and big-play ability. His receiving skills also make him an effective third-down back. Royster, meanwhile, is a smoother runner, has good field vision and picks up yards in chunks. With backs like Keiland Williams and rookies Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison also on the roster the Skins are deep. Helu's third down ability perhaps gives him an advantage which could make Royster expendable. In terms of a Morris handcuff, it's something worth watching.

The running backs vying for time behind Redskins RB Alfred Morris saw time in this order: Roy Helu, Evan Royster, Keiland Williams, Tristan Davis, Chris Thompson, Jawan Jamison. Morris is the unquestioned starter, and the rest are all battling for that backup/third-down back role.

Fantasy Impact: 

If healthy, Helu would make a fine third-down RB. He caught 49 passes back in 2011.

The Redskins, overall, are deeper at running back than they were last season because Roy Helu is expected to be fully recovered from his left big toe injury.

Helu's speed and elusiveness on the second level set him apart from starter Alfred Morris. A healthy Helu would reduce Morris’ physical burden after Morris carried 335 times last year. Helu also could join Morris and quarterback Robert Griffin III in an extremely potent triple option.

Fantasy Impact: 

Helu is a quality third-down back because of his hands, his ability to gain yards after the catch along with his pass blocking. He improved his blitz recognition as his rookie season progressed in 2011. Morris improved but continued to struggle as a third down back last year and as a result didn't pile up receptions and yards. The Skins also drafted Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison in the late rounds. Keiland Williams is also on the roster.
