OAK RB Latavius Murray - Week 10, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Minnesota

Latavius Murray ran the ball well in Week 9, totaling 96 yards on 17 carries before he was knocked out of action due to a concussion. While fantasy coaches need to monitor his status between now and Sunday afternoon, the general consensus seems to be that he will play against the Vikings.

Minnesota’s defense has momentum after doing a respectable job against St. Louis rookie superstar Todd Gurley last Sunday. The Vikings held Gurley to 89 yards on 24 carries and did not allow a run longer than 16 yards. Nonetheless, Gurley still found the end zone and Minnesota’s run defense is a middle-of-the-pack unit overall. If Murray is able to play, he will be an RB2 with an RB1 ceiling.

OAK RB Latavius Murray - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Pittsburgh

If you thought Latavius Murray might struggle in Week 8, you were not alone. Although Murray has established himself as a solid NFL and fantasy back, he was going to be facing the New York Jets and their awesome run defense. Instead, Murray had a very successful day under the circumstances, rushing for 113 yards on 20 carries.

While Pittsburgh’s run defense is no picnic, having allowed only two rushing touchdowns in 2015, they have shown increased vulnerability recently. Back in Week 7, Kansas City’s Charcandrick West burned the Steelers for 129 total yards and a touchdown. Cincinnati’s Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard also combined for over 100 total yards last Sunday. There will be games later on this year where Murray will have more upside, as the Raiders have Detroit and Tennessee on the docket, but he will be good to go as a reliable RB2.

OAK RB Latavius Murray - Week 8, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. New York Jets

Expected to potentially feast against a suspect San Diego run defense last Sunday, Latavius Murray did not have a monster day, but still satisfied fantasy coaches by rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown. Murray’s day would have been better had three other Oakland backs not split nine carries.

If Murray finds success this weekend, he will have really earned it. New York has the NFL’s best run defense. Because of his talent and lead role in the Oakland backfield, it would be hard for owners to automatically bench Murray, but you can consider it based on the matchup. He is more of a low-end RB2 and would be a risky daily league option.

OAK RB Latavius Murray - Week 7, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs San Diego

In his last two games, Latavius Murray has gotten on the bad side of Oakland head coach Jack Del Rio. While Del Rio is not exactly the sharpest coach in the NFL, pass protection issues and some miscues including a lost fumble are valid reasons why Murray has seen a decline in playing time. Murray has also been dealing with a shoulder issue, although it has not been serious enough to keep him sidelined in practice.

Redemption may be ahead for Murray in what some have dubbed the “Relocation Bowl.” The Chargers have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL, with only New Orleans, Miami, and Cleveland giving up more rushing yards per game. Additionally, San Diego has given up six rushing touchdowns in six games. Although Murray does not come without risks, this is a week where he could remind everyone why he was a popular sleeper back in the summer. RB1 numbers are within reach on Sunday.

OAK RB Latavius Murray - Week 5, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs Dwnver

Most young backs are far from perfect, and Latavius Murray proved that in Week 4 during Oakland’s disappointing 22-20 loss to Chicago. He lost a fumble and also had a ball bounce off his chest that resulted in an interception. The troubles, combined with a bum shoulder, resulted in Murray sitting on the sidelines during the pivotal stages of the fourth quarter. He finished with just 61 total yards.

However, by all accounts Oakland is standing by their young runner. And the shoulder should not pose a serious problem on Sunday. Denver’s defense has been great through the first four weeks of the season, but Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson were still able to find success against them. It is quite possible the Broncos will bewilder Derek Carr, leaving the Oakland offense in the hands of Murray, who will be eager to atone for last week’s troubles. He should be fine as a RB2.

OAK RB Latavius Murray - Week 4, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Chicago

The talented Latavius Murray had no problems shredding Cleveland’s deplorable run defense in Week 3. Murray rushed for 139 yards, including a 54-yard gain and a touchdown as Oakland scored a 27-20 victory.

The Raiders are continuing to use Murray as a workhorse and his stock is sky high heading into a brawl with a Chicago team giving up over 130 rushing yards per game. All of the teams that have faced the 0-3 Bears have jumped out to a lead against them. If the Raiders can maintain that trend, Latavius could emerge as the top running back of the week. Even if that does not happen, a place at the RB1 table still needs to be set for Murray.

OAK RB Latavius Murray - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Cleveland

Baltimore was supposed to represent a tough matchup for Latavius Murray last Sunday, but Murray did just fine, accumulating 87 total yards and a touchdown as the Raiders pulled off an upset over the Ravens.

This Sunday, Murray is looking at a dream matchup. The Browns are giving up a staggering average of 160 rushing yards per game and even a stiff like Tennessee’s Dexter McCluster rushed for 98 yards on 10 carries against them in Week 2. With a bad run defense on the other side of the field and the Raiders enjoying a rare dose of momentum, all of the elements are coming together to make Murray an RB1.
