Scouting report

by Dale Lolley

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 17 vs. Bengals
Markus Wheaton had just two receptions for 27 yards on his only two targets last week. Given all the other weapons in the Pittsburgh offense, it's tough for Wheaton to get a lot of looks. He's just not a consistent enough performer to recommend this week.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 16 vs. Chiefs
Markus Wheaton had his best game of the season in a road game last week, catching five passes for 66 yards. He's been much better at home this season, catching both of his touchdown passes while averaging 55 yards receiving. And that includes a game in which he did not catch a pass. That said, he's not worth much more than a low-end flex start.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 14 vs. Bengals
Markus Wheaton and Ben Roethlisberger just missed on a big play to open the game last week and Wheaton finished with five catches for 61 yards. He's averaged seven targets in the past three games, but the Bengals present a stiff challenge this week. Wheaton is not a recommended start this week.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 13 vs. Saints
The emergence of Martavis Bryant has relegated Markus Wheaton to a JAG (just a guy) in the Pittsburgh offense. There's not a lot of value here at this point, though the Saints provide a juicy matchup.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 11 vs. Titans
Markus Wheaton picked up four receptions for 41 yards last week, which seems to be about the norm for him. He's only got two touchdowns this season, so with his numbers, there's not a lot of upside. He should only be playing in the deepest of leagues.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 10 vs. Jets
Markus Wheaton is splitting time with rookie Martavis Bryant nearly equally and seems to be benefiting from it, if anything. He's had TD catches in each of the last two weeks, catching two passes for 62 yards last week. But the two scores are his only two of the season, so his point total is tied to getting into the end zone. He's probably worth nothing more than a flex play, even in a great matchup.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 9 vs. Ravens
Markus Wheaton had five catches for 56 yards and his first career TD last week but he's lost time in the Steelers' WR rotation. He's still getting more playing time than some of the others, but the production of Martavis Bryant has definitely cut into Wheaton's numbers. He's not a consistent performer at this point.
