Scouting report

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 8 vs. Colts
A week after getting 12 targets - and four receptions - at Cleveland, Wheaton was targeted just twice against Houston and did not catch a pass. Worse yet, he was splitting playing time with rookie Martavis Bryant, Lance Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey. Wheaton isn't completely on the outs, but he's not a guy you can rely on at this point.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 7 vs. Texans
Usually, it's a good thing when a receiver gets 11 targets as Markus Wheaton did last week. But he managed just four receptions for 33 yards and was clearly not on the same page as Ben Roethlisberger. The two are working on that this week and look for Wheaton to bounce back. He should be a good flex play against a soft Houston secondary.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 6 vs. Browns
Markus Wheaton caught just one pass last week but dropped an early downfield attempt that would have made his day much more palatable. He had his best game in the opener against Cleveland, catching six passes for 97 yards. And if Joe Haden is out, all the better. Wheaton is a flex start again this week.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 5 vs. Jaguars
Markus Wheaton had four receptions for 57 yards last week and is turning into a nice low-end No. 3 receiver or strong flex play each week. He's dealing with a groin injury that has limited him in practice this week, so be careful. If he doesn't practice Friday, the Steelers will likely hold him out. If not, he should be a decent start as a flex or low-end No. 3 play against a horrific Jacksonville defense.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 4 vs. Bucs
Markus Wheaton has had at least four receptions in every game this season, but had just four receptions for 35 last week at Carolina. He did have his first career touchdown wiped off the board when officials ruled that he stepped out of bounds before catching the pass, but Ben Roethlisberger is looking his way. Tampa Bay has been burned by wide receivers this season. Wheaton is a sneaky start this week as a No. 3 receiver with a number of teams on bye.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 3 vs. Panthers
Markus Wheaton had five receptions for 38 yards and added two runs for another 22 yards. He's off to a solid start with 11 receptions for 135 yards in the first two games. But Lance Moore will be back for the Steelers this week, which could cut into Wheaton's opportunities. Feel free to use Wheaton as a solid flex play or low-end No. 3 receiver.

PIT WR Markus Wheaton - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Markus Wheaton Week 2 vs. Ravens
Markus Wheaton got off to a fine start last week, catching six passes for 97 yards and exploiting the single coverage playing opposite Antonio Brown afforded him. Wheaton did his damage on just seven targets. He should see a similar amount of looks this week, which should make him a great start as a low-end No. 3 receiver or a solid flex option, especially in PPR leagues.
