LAR QB Matthew Stafford - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs San Francisco 49ers

Another week, another rash of injuries for everyone around Matthew Stafford. Between the offensive line and receiving rooms, it's carnage in Los Angeles. The Rams have already filled their eight IR slots and have a few others eligible who couldn't go on. All of this, plus coming off a rough week against Arizona, makes it difficult to start Stafford right now.

He's a back-end QB2 that is really tough to trust right now. Stafford is a desperation play in Superflex, but outside of that is really tough to trust even against a 49ers defense that gave up some big plays to the Vikings last week.

LAR QB Matthew Stafford - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Arizona Cardinals

What seemed like it could be a pretty promising season for Matthew Stafford hit a fairly large road bump in Week 1 against the Lions. Stafford lost his top receiver last season, Puka Nacua, in the first half and now we know he'll be out at least four weeks. Stafford also lost two starting lineman in OT Joe Noteboom and OG Steve Avila. While Stafford still managed to throw for 317 yards against Detroit, it's still a substantial loss.

The matchup against the Cardinals is fantastic, and while Stafford won't get the fantasy points on the ground that Josh Allen did for the Bills, Allen was still very efficient through the air. Stafford is a borderline QB1 this week checking in as QB14 in our rankings, but will likely be more in play in superflex leagues.

LAR QB Matthew Stafford - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Detroit Lions

Matt Stafford may not be the same gunslinger that was throwing for 4500+ yards in Detroit, but he's got a matchup against those Lions in what I guess still counts as a revenge game. The Lions were one of the biggest pass funnels in the league last season which explains why Stafford, who was drafted outside the top-20 quarterbacks, is suddenly QB15 on the week.

While Stafford won't offer much of anything with his legs, the matchup against Detroit in dome is about as good as it gets. While he isn't a QB1 this week, he makes for a solid QB2 in superflex leagues or a streaming option for those looking for one.

LAR QB Matthew Stafford - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
The thing about Matt Stafford is that he isn't going to win you a fantasy league in 2024. He's more "safe" than an upside guy in his later years as we get farther removed from the 5000-yard days in Detroit. That said, if you're in a Superflex league or in best ball, Stafford is far from the worst option later in drafts. He finished as QB15 last year without a healthy Cooper Kupp, so presumably outpacing his QB19 draft position shouldn't be impossible. Again, not a league winner, but a safe option in drafts.

Fantasy Downside
The downside is pretty simple, like Kupp, Stafford is getting up in age and has also at least considered retirement the last two offseasons. He's not your guy in redraft leagues as you should be able to do better than the QB19 in 1QB leagues. He only had three games with over 20 fantasy points last season, so while he's a safe option and has no threat of losing his job, he also isn't likely to win you a ton of weeks.

2024 Bottom Line
The bottom line on Stafford is that he's a safer option for Superflex leagues and a solid later-round stack in best ball if you've got Puka Nacua, Kupp, or both. He's an avoid in 1QB redraft leagues as you can certainly do better.

LAR QB Matthew Stafford - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at New York Giants

Matthew Stafford continued his hot streak in a 30-22 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 16. He completed over 70% of his passes, throwing for 328 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. It's been a month of interception-free football for him.

During the past five weeks he's thrown for multiple touchdowns in every game. We have him ranked as the QB11 for fantasy finals weekend and he's a worthy streaming option if you've made it this far piecing your QB1 spot together.

LAR QB Matthew Stafford - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. New Orleans Saints

The Rams take on the Saints on Thursday Night Football this week with Matthew Stafford leading the charge. He comes in as our QB12 on the week. Stafford has been all over our rankings this year but has put together a strong month and deserves to be a starter in Week 16.

Over the past month, he's on a streak of four straight multi-touchdown games. Stafford has only thrown one pick in that span, as well. Since missing the Green Bay game, he's averaging 248 passing yards and 2.8 touchdowns to just 0.4 interceptions.

LAR QB Matthew Stafford - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Washington Commanders

Matthew Stafford is all the way up to QB7 in our rankings this week. He's coming off of his second three-touchdown, zero-interception outing in a row. Stafford came up just shy of his fourth 300-yard passing outing.

The Commanders have allowed nine of their last 10 opposing quarterbacks to throw for multiple touchdowns. Stafford is hoping to make it 10 of the last 11 when they suit up on Sunday. He's a must-start if you have him on your roster this week.
