Scouting report

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Tampa Bay

Michael Floyd had only three catches against the Patriots last week to start the season, but he gained 61 yards and was targeted seven times – second most on the team. Floyd is a big, physical WR who has a knack for getting open and should continue to be heavily targeted opposite Larry Fitzgerald in the prolific Arizona offense.

Because of three talented WRs on the roster, Floyd has a certain element of risk to his fantasy value each week, but he should be good for at least borderline WR2 numbers against the Bucs. Tampa Bay gave up five catches, 80 yards, and a touchdown to Mohamed Sanu last week, and Floyd should have his opportunities to get similar production.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. New England
Michael Floyd fell out of favor early last season after nagging injuries limited him for the first seven games, but he really came on strong late in the season and wound up with over 100 receiving yards in five of his last eight games. Floyd is in a contract year and will be trying to prove he’s worth a big deal with a productive season.

Floyd faces a very average Patriot pass defense this week, but he carries an element of risk with him because of the presence of two other very viable WRs on the roster in John Brown and Larry Fitzgerald. Because the Cardinal offense is so prolific, it’s worth using him as a low-end WR2 in most leagues, but the risk remains with all three talented Arizona WRs due to the crowded depth chart.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Michael Floyd finished third on the Cardinals with 52 catches last season, but a deeper dive shows a potential breakout star in 2016. The fifth-year receiver played through three dislocated fingers early on last season and was largely a non-factor until catching five passes in Week 4. But it wasn't until midseason that Floyd was fully healthy and incorporated into the game plan, and he posted five 100-yard games over a seven-game stretch. At 6-2, 220 pounds, Floyd uses his big body to high-point passes and has plenty of speed to beat man coverage, averaging 16.3 yards per catch last season.

Fantasy Downside
He's working in a crowded receiving corps with Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown, David Johnson, Chris Johnson, Andre Ellington and J.J. Nelson all having the potential to produce in the Cardinals passing attack.

2016 Bottom Line
Floyd is scheduled to make around $7 million on his rookie contract option, which expires after the 2016 season. It seems likely the team will extend him in advance of that, but it's always nice to see a player working for his next payday. In the meantime, expect him to continue playing a front-line role in one of the league's most potent downfield passing attacks.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 20, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

NFC Championship at Carolina

Michael Floyd only caught three of the seven balls thrown his way against the Packers last week, but he made them count. While he only gained 26 yards on the day, he scored two touchdowns and his size and leaping ability make him a nice red zone target for quarterback Carson Palmer.

This week, Floyd may benefit if ace coverage corner Josh Norman of the Panthers lines up on Larry Fitzgerald. Carolina is down their second and third best corners and was exposed a little by Seattle in the second half of last week’s game. Floyd is a nice upside pick for fantasy owners as a player who put up good numbers over the second half of the season.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 19, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 vs. Green Bay

Michael Floyd had a great second half of 2015 and developed a nice rapport with quarterback Carson Palmer that translated into consistent WR2 numbers when he was healthy. Floyd finished the year with 849 yards and six touchdowns on 52 receptions, and he was targeted a total of 37 times over a four game span between Weeks 13 -16.

This week, Floyd faces a tough Green Bay pass defense, but should still be heavily targeted in the Cardinals’ prolific passing offense. Floyd has some risk associated with him because of the other talented receivers for the Cardinals, but he was arguably the most consistent option in the Arizona passing game over the second half of the season and has a pretty high floor for fantasy owners looking for steady options.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Seattle

Michael Floyd was targeted a team high eight times last week, and caught six passes for 111 yards in a blowout win over Green Bay. Floyd has really rebounded over the second half of the season, with over 100 yards receiving in four out of his last six games. He’s also been targeted at least eight times in four straight weeks and has emerged as a favorite target in the Arizona passing game.

This week, Floyd may struggle a bit against Seattle’s vaunted pass defense. The Seahawks have allowed the second least passing yards and the least amount of touchdowns passes in this league this year, and Arizona may struggle to move the ball consistently. Still, Floyd has been nearly matchup proof as of late, and should be good for solid WR2 numbers in most leagues, especially if Larry Fitzgerald gets the main focus from the opposing secondary.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Green Bay

Michael Floyd caught five of the eight balls thrown his way last week against the Eagles, and led the team with 70 receiving yards on the day. Floyd has been excellent when healthy over the second half of the season and has been arguably the Cardinals best receiver during that time period.

This week, Floyd may struggle against a Top-10 pass defense, but he should still be targeted enough to put up solid WR2 numbers in all league formats. The Packers have been steady against the pass, but the Cardinals prolific offense is in a must-win situation to stave off Green Bay from a first round bye in the playoffs, and Floyd should benefit from an aggressive game plan.
